I travel all over the country as well and I totally disagree with your statement. When I'm in LA alcohol is involved in everything we do. There is not a day goes by that after work everybody doesn't get smashed. Every co worker of mine that lives there I would classify as a classic alcoholic. Hell, ya'll have DRIVE THRU daquiri shops. There is absolutely no laws of where you can drink at Tiger stadium. it blew my mind that you could just walk around campus with a beer in your hand. I guess it's just accepted. I didn't even mention New Orleans. Why do people visit New Orleans... and it ain't for the scenic beauty. I've watched tons of folks literally falling down drunk in the streets of NO and there is not one public intoxication citation ever handed out.

This quite possibly could be one of the dumbest posts I have seen on the Rant. That's pretty bad.

Alcohol consumed per capita, Louisiana is right in line with national data: Louisiana 2.58 gallons of alcohol per year where the national average is 2.32 gallons of alcohol per year. New Hampshire does themselves some drinking. They consume 4.55 gallons of alcohol per year. Utah is the lowest at 1.37 gallons per year...damn mormons.

2014 alcohol consumption data.

Its not the availability, its the cultural acceptance.

I don't think many people are seriously arguing that LSU should not hire Sark because he would be coaching in Louisiana. If Sark has recovered and continues to take the action he needs to take, he will be fine wherever he is coaching. On the other hand, if he is an alcoholic and not taking the necessary steps to recover and grow, he will drink again no matter where he is coaching. Recovery from alcoholism is not a function of location. I know from experience.

You cant convince me going to a liquor store is harder than going to a gas station

It sure is. There is a gas station on every corner but only a handful of liquor stores in any decent sized Texas town.

Plus more than once I have wanted to get some booze only to realize its 9:30 pm. In Louisana I would still be golden.

Trust me. An alcoholic's sobriety does not turn on instant availability of alcohol. If he has an unrecovered alcoholic mind, he will drink again regardless of circumstances. However, fortunately, the opposite is also true.

I'm in Tuscaloosa a lot and I'm pretty much hammered the whole time.

Location is irrelevant.

Again, I'm not saying we should hire Sark. But if we would otherwise hire him, but don't because "Louisiana culture"... well, that's just stupid.

When I think that this board can't get any dumber, I go and read this thread.

God, some of you people are dumb.

This notion that we drink more here than in other places is ridiculous. I travel all over the country for work and lots of places drink MORE than we do.

You are taking something to be literal that is not what it is meant to be. It isn't that people in Louisiana drink more than anywhere else it is that Louisiana, in particular New Orleans and LSU, are thought of as uber partying places. And if you have been to both places, which I assume you have, that can't be denied. Hell playboy used to publish a list every year ranking the top 20 colleges that party the most. And every year I saw that list "I read playboy for the articles " would have a caption at the end of it saying "Sorry LSU we don't rank professionals"

Two things that are known about Sark, he is an alcoholic and he loves to chase pussy. Ok putting him at LSU and that close to New Orleans is like asking the fox to guard the hen house. There are a few places that come to mind that might not be the best environment for Sark, and one of them is LSU/New Orleans.

It is a near certainty that Louisiana people drink way more than average.

Now having more access doesn't guarantee a relapse, but it makes staying on the wagon that much harder. For the same reason I would think a pothead would have more problems staying sober in Colorado than a state that only has medical marijuana.

That's not even close to the same thing. Alcohol is legal everywhere. Weed isn't.

I don't know why anyone would have a problem with Sark, since at LSU we are all about second chances.

Plus he's a had a season in the Saban Halfway House/Football Analyst Position.

Sark is a bad idea because of alchohol. Alchoholism is a huge deal.

I agree, if the reports are true that he just fell off the wagon. He's got more to worry about and figure out than which Offensive plays to call and schemes to run. He needs some distance and time. Why take the risk when there are too many equally qualified OCs on the board?
