To say Mel Tucker’s HC record is subpar is the understatement of the decade

Woof…is this who is a possible top 3 candidate for one of the top 5 jobs in CFB?

2019 Colorado 5-7 (3-6 PAC 12)
2020 Mich State 2-5
2021 Mich State 7-0
-meat of the season the next 5 weeks

Mel Tucker wiki

Frick, if that’s the gamble Woodward is considering give me back O…wow is all I can say.

Now if you tell me Woodward would entertain making this hire for other reasons, I could at least accept that because it’s 2021 and well, we all know what is expected to correct societal wrongs

Not championing for him and this years schedule has been shite but what did he inherit those first years at Colorado and Michigan state? Genuinely asking

7 wins this year. Still lacking a win against a team with a winning record. This is the kind of shite that fools programs into bad hires.

I saw him first mentioned a few weeks ago and went and pulled up his wiki.

I was perplexed and wondered, based strictly on his coaching resume, what the heck I was missing.

No way LSU pays more than what he is making at msu north of $5m
O was more qualified and only got 2.5m

He was a pretty crappy NFL DC at times too.

This hire will not be made in the next 2-3 weeks. If Mel Tucker can get Michigan state to 11-1 or 10-2 this year then I think he deserves consideration.

I'm going to be disgusted if he is hired.

I got to personally witness his towering incompetence in Chicago when he was DC. Last NFL job he ever had.

quote:

On January 18, 2013 Tucker was named defensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears.[10] Following one of the worst defensive seasons in Bears' history in 2013, Tucker was criticized by the media.[11] As a result, the team fired two of Tucker's assistant coaches, linebackers coach Tim Tibesar and defensive line coach Mike Phair.[12] The Bears replaced them with Paul Pasqualoni as defensive line coach and Reggie Herring as linebackers coach.[13]

On January 20, 2015, following another record-setting low defensive season for the Bears in 2014, Tucker was replaced by former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio under new head coach John Fox.[14]

Is it though?

Tucker has had some big time failures at DC, had a shitty record at his first HC stop that he “somehow” parlayed into a P5 job and had a horrible first year there.

Aranda has been a good to great DC everywhere, had a bad first year as a HC and is having a good year this year.

Tucker’s salary is 5.6 million. Probably his rock bottom would be 6 million. Why would he leave a totally relevant conference, unless Michigan St. forces him out.

This will be indicative, if they suck during this stretch, his name should get removed from the list, he has a strong coaching background HC performance is lacking so this year may turn the worm

Mel Tucker has done nothing to warrant consideration as LSU's next coach.

He has a mediocre record (at best) as a head coach and having a stellar year, this year, in this environment at Michigan State will only nudge that conclusion slightly in his favor.

Cons:

1. He is a Yankee (of course, so was Miles)
2. His career is more skewed NFL than college (and, frankly, it is only fair to say he underperformed in the NFL, particularly outside of a couple of good years as Browns and Jax DC - his stint at the Bears was almost career ending)
3. His reputation as a coordinator is underwhelming (of course Eaux didn't have any college or pro experience at coordinating except recruiting)
4. Just a few years recruiting experience in the South

Pros:

1. Is of the Saban tree and has coached at LSU for 1 year (Saban's first)

2. Is a very personable guy, with good football knowledge and by reputation is a great recruiter

People will change their tune if he produces vs the big ten elite. If he fails then he falls out of consideration. Im not losing sleep over tucker. In the end this will still be woodys hire.

That's an extremely underwhelming resume.

No doubt the guy has some skill in some areas, but not as the HC at LSU.

With the amount of smoke around Tuckers name right now, you can be rest assured that he won’t be the hire

and people say they were bad programs.. okay? james franklin won big at freaking vandy.

he should have to prove himself on the bigger stage. they are finally getting to the meat of their schedule this year. they very well could lose all of their remaining games.

i am not even sure he is as great of a defensive mind as made out to be. let's see how he fairs against michigan and ohio st's offenses.

and people say he is the same thing as Aranda. they can go screw off with that shite.

Aranda was a beast even before he took over Wisconsin's defense.
