Ok going into this season we lose Pellini and almost instantly Miles appoints from within and assigns a CO - DC crap. My problem with this is that you can sell our program and tell top candidates that you would be coaching the defending National Champions on defense.
Now it seems that he is just wanted to just skate by once again until the right time and that time to me is getting close to passing.
Why cant the guy just go into the office sit his guys down and say tough S$#%# fellas we are going to make changes and I am going to make them right now because I am the HEAD COACH.
He is handling this situation like he handles timeouts in a football game - LIKE CRAP.
Put the PROGRAM ahead of your heart for once and use your NUTS again and GO FOR IT LES - PLEASE.

Are you kidding? It took a long while for it to come out that appointed those two idiots.

Ok well it seemed like it was done quickly because no one evidently was interviewed for the position.

It drug on for a while. There was speculation Miles intentionally left it open so he could have more in home visits with recruits.
Tenuata didn't sign up with ND until afterwards so everyone figured it was either Tenuta or Dumb and Dumber. Belowpar confirmed as much.

He (Miles) has a history of hiring good asst coaches. Gundy- "I am a man I am 40" has done well at Ok St, Pellini was a good hire, Crowton was a good hire. For the life of me I can't figure out how we got to this CO-Def Coordinator thing. Do those guys have photos of Miles with Farm animals or something? Really.... What is up with that. No way they could be on the payroll an hour after the Arkansas game. No way!

OK.....assuming that some were interviewed / approached and no one decided on the job, then...
was it because it was to LSU
or
was it because it was under Miles
Right now, I am really liking Greg Hudson of ECU, I saw their D stop the # 2 passing O in the country.

Why do this? These guys were assistants on the NC team. They FAILED as co-DCs. They need to be replaced.
But, why must we denigrate them and insult them, too?. The job was too much for them. That is all. They are not "idiots" or "retards". Just not up to the task.
Miles should not have experimented with the program. I will not, however, insult the guys.

Another why to look at this was that he was trying to maintain continuity. At the time, we had RP, and maybe another legit run at Da Crystal. Not broke, so no fixin concept. Now we are broke down on the side of the road. Obviously the wrong decision in hindsight, but seemed to have merit at the time. Ahhhhh.... here comes the tow truck now.

Quite right, Cash. In fact, officially, they were just floating that idea as a possibility. Then they kind of half-a$$ed leaked it out that it was happening, or that it had happened. Ultimately, when pressed by the media (and I am not even sure that this wasn't after the big game), Miles finally confirmed it.

Last year Miles lost the guy he wanted (thought we had him) then the confusion started. I don't think the CoDC thing was an expiriment. Not sure why he did it. Maybe, because the field was so limmited, he wanted to stay with some people he knew, try to keep things on the same page with the players, knowing he would bring someone in next year.

Good for you. I will insult them at will.

How many posts do you have to make with the same stupid garbage?
He took a while each hire he's made so far. Crowton and Pelini worked out pretty well when he hired them. He made one mistake thinking that Pelini's system was fail-safe and that Pelini's assistants could run it without missing a beat (the defense did rank well last year and it wasn't a horrible thought at the time). Obviously in hindsight it was a wrong decision, and he has made clear he is going to change things. The team will be no better off by firing the DCs without someone to coach them in the bowl game. If that allows Miles to look for the right guy, while he also recruits a top-3 class, then so be it. IF he makes no change and IF the team is no better next year than this year, THEN complain.
How you know anything about what is the right time, when that time passes, etc. is beyond me. You don't know that he hasn't had that exact coversation with the current DCs, or that he hasn't made moves to secure a replacement. Quit stirring shite.

Because no one that posts on here has ever done any of the following:
1. Made a mistake
2. Taken on more than they can handle
3. Took a chance that didn't pan out.
The list could go on, but the message is clear that it's easy to sit on the outside and judge when you don't even have all of the information. All most people here know (aside from very few) is what they read here, in the papers, or hear on ESPN.

BHP, there's a certain element of mental masturbation in all of this. Many, many fans (myself included) were leery of the idea of Co-DCs. My leadership experience is, both military and non-military, that all command relationships, responsibilities and heirachachal tiers must be clearly defined. If they are muddy, in any way, you will get problems that hit the "it's not my job" wall, and there will be plenty of credit to go around when things go well (and there's nothing wrong with that), but no one to accept responsibility for what goes wrong. Blame for blame's sake is not a good, productive thing, either, but being forced to accept responsibility is also the best incentive for doing all of the right things and getting the job done.
Back to your original point - the vindication that some fans feel for doubting the co-dc system in general, and in some cases the choice of guys to be co-dcs (I am not a Peveto fan, and I'm not alone. Many are not fans of Mallory, and I understand that, completely.) has emboldened them to make completely vicious and personal attacks on coaches, as you correctly pointed out, were assistants on the NC team.
I agree that we ought to be able to recognize the problem, call for change, but without denigrating and personally insulting guys who did help us win a BCS championship in January of 2008(less than 1 year ago, for those of you without calendars.)

So which is it? You complain about making a fast desicion last year (which it wasn't) and then complain that he isn't making the decision fast enough now.
The insanity of our fans....

Not what I said or meant. Complain all you want about how crappy of a season we had, but people on this board are throwing a fit over their "feeling" that Les won't do anything or will screw up the next DC hire or non-hire. My point - he deserves a little leeway in this process. See what he does, who he hires and how it pans out before casting judgment on his handling of this off-season. Yes the promotion of the co-DCs was a bad move, but he's made more good hires than bad. See what he does.
