It reminds me of Gus Malzahn in 2010. His stock was at an all-time high, and he could have had a much better job that the Arkansas State job he received after stayed for the 2011 season (stock dropped a little bit due to losing a lot of players and not seeing as much success). He had to replace players like Cam Newton with Clint Moseley and Barrett Trotter, Darvis Adams with Trovon Reed, etc...

Chad Morris' offense just lost Tajh Boyd, Sammie Watkins, Martavis Bryant, and Roberick McDowell. He will more than likely be breaking in a true freshman quarterback in DeShaun Watson. If he's smart, he will take a job somewhere else and build is head coachng resume.

And who's the real loser in all of this? Dabo Swinney... Clemson falls back into mediocrity. And go ahead and mark this down. Clemson won't be as bad as Auburn was after Gus Malzahn left, but Dabo Swinney will see his time end in Clemson, and they will go back and hire the real catalyst to these really good Clemson teams...Chad Morris.

Agree or Disagree?

Agree, but Chad seems to not want to make the jump

Maybe he's happy to be paid 1.7m a year to be an oc at a place with relatively less demands than comparable programs.

He makes an absurd amount of money to have no head coach responsibility.

I wouldn't leave unless a major program came calling.

Meh, Dabo will hire another guy with a similar system and Clem will continue to win 8-10 a year because they recruit so well. Don't think he will try to go pro style

He's only 45, so hes got time. Further he was coaching high school ball in 2009, maybe he feels he needs more time to be a successful HC in college.

completely agree.. he needs to make the move now or he'll never be a HC.

I wouldn't be too sure of that. The backup, Cole Stoudt, will be a 5th year senior with three years of playing under Morris. He played a good bit this year because of Clemson's blowouts and put up some pretty good numbers. Think its going to be hard for a true freshman to overtake him. The other backup has a better chance of being the starting QB than Watson next season.

Morris is holding out for a job where he knows he will have a good opportunity to win. When he leaves Clemson, the odds of Clemson ever being able to hire him back will be slim to none.

This.

Dabo has been absolute money lately with his coaching hires. He doesn't get enough credit for identifying and hiring Morris, and he nailed it getting Venables from Oklahoma. He'll hire someone extremely similar to Morris, and Clemson will be fine.

I actually think Morris' gameday playcalling is overrated. His true genius is in his ability to develop the QB position, his understanding of his system, the toughness he instills in his players, and the implementation of his scheme. Like Jimbo, I expect him to be a substantially better head coach than OC.

Also, he won't be breaking in a true freshman. He'll turn the offense over to Chad "Swag" Kelly. He's basically a Connor Shaw clone. Possibly a little worse as a passer but more elusive as a runner. One of the toughest SOBs around. Returned from a torn ACL in like 6 months, topped even AP's time. He's Jim Kelly's nephew and has been groomed for this moment for years.

Morris is smart and waiting for the right job. He's not gonna jump at whatever comes available (aka Dan Mullen).

LOL. You gathered this from the 12 snaps that he has taken? More elusive? hmm

This. I think he is just waiting for Sumlin to make the jump to the NFL.

I've worked out with Chad Kelly back home in Buffalo, he's a beast in the gym and has worked his arse off to this point. He has just the attitude you need at QB

What is this? Chod Kelly is so much worse than Connor Shaw words cannot describe the difference between them.

I thought that QB that was an EE was the favorite to win the job anyways

Disagree in part. I do think Chad should leave, though.

Gus turned down the Vandy job, where I think he would have had success, but it is a much riskier proposition. The intermediate, Arky State level job is a great move, IMO. You know they have a good roster, you know you can have at least moderate success, you're familiar with the area, etc.

I like Vandy a lot, but if things are mediocre, your window closes. Moreover, while the pay is decent, you don't get the loaded rosters at the lower Arky State level or at the subsequent Auburn level to help you. Nor do you get the assistant coaches at the AU level.

In sum, I think taking a carefully selected C job to wait for the A job you want is better than taking a well-paying B job and seeing what happens. That is what I would look for if I was Chad. Of course, if someone wants to offer him a top 20 job out of Clemson then clearly you can skip the intermediate step.

And I think that's what he's holding out for, though I don't really know why. He was interviewed for the NC State job last year, which I thought was a great gig for a guy with his resume. NC State can be a sleeping giant, once they figure out how to keep NC's talent at home.

Now that we're going through another offseason without Morris really being seriously considered for a head coaching job, I have to wonder what his endgame is. Either he doesn't want to leave Clemson and be a head coach (kinda like Bud Foster, I guess), or he is holding off for a T25 gig. Dunno. But I do find it curious.

Vulnerables has definitely improved the D from the past years, but I don't understand how this was "nailed" by Dabo. They gave up 35 to OSU and all I have heard is how good the D played. Gave up 50 plus to FSU. Couldn't stop a SCar 3rd down for anything.

That's what I'm saying. Yes he was an improvement on Steele but he isn't some amazing hire.
