re: [Theories] Why Miles Is Staying

He loves LSU, Baton Rouge, Louisiana etc.
He's an LSU man now.
Jimmy Johnson said in the U interview that he is a proud Arkansas alum but Miami is his school. I think Les would say the same about LSU.

Per the front page of TD.com:
Which correlates nicely to this storyline (via WWL):
Miles was seeking job security, not more money. He is happy at LSU but he wanted affirmation from Alleva that LSU was happy with him and would be patient with him going forward, especially if he has another set of back to back sub 10 win seasons like 2008 and 2009.
I'll bet a lot of coaches would applaud the way he handled this. Most head coaches deplore the lack of job security they have relative to what football coaches use to have. JoePa and Bobby Bowden are a dying breed.

TD.com sources had indicated last month that both Miles and LSU saw the need to re-word portions of the contract that pertained to rollover and buyout.
Which correlates nicely to this storyline (via WWL):
quote:
A source close to the LSU program and a friend of Miles has told me the mad hatter is not looking to leave Baton Rouge. But he would like to see a commitment from the administration that he's not going to be fired after an eight win season.
LSU did not roll over his contract or extend his deal after LSU won eight and nine games after the 2008 and 2009 seasons. In fact after the 2009 season, LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva called the 2009 campaign a "nice season," but wanted more from the program.
Miles would be the first to admit LSU should play for championships every year, but if the Tigers come up short of that goal, he would like to see the administration stand behind him, instead of giving him a luke warm grade.

so he was offered....it just wasn't enough money.
if he was offered, it was a low ball offer if anything. I will find the answer though while you bury your head in da sand.

Just as Skip Bertman is a Miami alum but over time came to view himself a LSU man for life.
Miles originally wanted to be the next Bo Schembechler but over time he has come to want to be that guy for LSU.

He wanted it, make no mistake.
MSC and LC wouldn't have him, though. Hell, maybe even DB didn't want him.
really?? so all that stuff with the planes and the hotels and the meetings and the dinners was just to come down and say hey?

LSU fans think way too much of Les. He didn't turn down UM in 2007, and it's likely he didn't turn them down last night.
No...i think you think too less of him. As in "there is no way any other school would want him.". So you've got it stuck in your head that UM couldn't have offered because that would make you look stupid.....when we all know damn well that if Miles wanted that job he would be in Ann Arbor right now.

no we don't all know that, but that likely makes us ignorant fuks negatigers.

This.
Lots of folks think too little of Les.

dude...i get it. You want to think that there is no way any other school could want Miles so you're running around trying to find any little thing that may make him look bad.
Honestly....i don't give a shite. He's LSUs coach now....deal with it.

The grass is greener and stays greener longer here than the other side!

quote:Does Brandon fly to BR and stay overnight to meet with Les for no reason? If they didn't want him, then why play the cat and mouse game that only hurts UM in the public and recruits eyes. Also, it further delays the hiring process so the coach has even less time to assemble a staff and hit the road recruiting.
LSU fans think way too much of Les. He didn't turn down UM in 2007, and it's likely he didn't turn them down last night. He was simply never offered.
Your theory doesn't hold water.

He didn't get offered by Michigan and that's a fact, becoming clearer by the moment. Same as in 2007 when some people's hero didn't get offered.

Michigan offered him a pay cut to coach.
No way he tells his wife we're going to Michigan, and taking a $2M per year paycut.

fwiw this year if AU had one loss they wouldn't be considered for the NC.

I think Les just pulled off the best PR move since Tiger stopped winning golf tournaments. Think about it...He really is a good coach and it would be tough to guarantee that we'd get anyone better, but he's never been embraced because we all thought he would jump at a chance to go to Michigan. Now Michigan has offered and he has refused. Let's show him the class that he deserves by embracing him as our coach and supporting him even on those rare occurrences when the shite hits the fan. Geaux Les and thanks for staying!

Where's your link. You don't know shite. The LSU AD's office took the MI actions seriously and that's what counts. Unless you know more than they do.
Please make sure to negotiate on LSU's behalf next time.

quote:This is exactly what I came to realize about CLM this season, and why I am now a born-again Les Miles fan. He got this team to perform, beat Mullen, Dooley, Saban, Nutt, and Meyer (along with Butch Davis' UNC, tAMu, and WVU). So Ark and MNC Aubie beat us - I'll take 11-2 and a #8 ranking end of season, when nobody, I mean nobody expected much from this team this year.

Really, I thought you said he wasn't offered? We understand your point. No one wants Miles but a few LSU fans.
T or F. Les will end his career at LSU the winningest coach in school history? 2. That record will not be broken?
