Good post for the most part but Baylor is not remotely the most powerful school politically in Texas, they are probably 4th behind A&M, Texas, and probably Tech. Baylor did have some power years ago when Bob Bullock was Lt Governor and Ann Richards were Governor and it got them in the B12 but now they aren't close to that.
I would even argue UH is more powerful than Baylor right now politically. Public schools always will have more pull, especially because there are so many different private schools, Baylor is just the largest of many (Rice, SMU, TCU, etc.)
The arrogance level and complete disregard for anyone other than their own interests though describes Texas perfectly. They not only think the world revolves around them, they expect others to worship at their feet and feel honored to bask in their glow.

Did anyone EVER think that even though Texas didn't have the talent or the athletes that their opponent did... somehow Mack's coaching would get them the victory?? No, quite the opposite. Texas almost always has an overwhelming athletic advantage against opponents. OU is closest talent wise year in & out and they have embarrassed UT more than a few times in Dallas.
Great PR man and recruiter. Great football coach...not so much

As long as A&M is in the SEC and Texas is not A&M is going to get recruits from Texas. Even with Saban the BDF is still the 5th best conference and they play mainly regionally televised games against teams nobody gives a shite about.

Saban is smarter than that. Why the hell would he go to a school where its harder to win (history says it is) and harder to recruit to (at Alabama his recruiting rival is Auburn, at Texas not only does he have to worry about Texas A&M, but Oklahoma as well, not to mention good programs at other smaller BCS schools in the state..there are no Baylors or TCUs or Texas Techs in Alabama), and also is an administrative mess.
you really lost me here

We're doooooomed!!!!!!
Oh wait, Auburn is playing for the national championship this year. And I think Saban coaches at a big school up the road from them.
We'll be fine.

who cares about where it was hardest to win in the 70's? Where is the easiest road for the next 5 years?
Stewart Mandel of SI talks about a phenomena called "Clemson/Ole Miss Syndrome" he also ever few years writes his "Kings, Barons" column where he sperates the FBS schools into 4 tiers. His basic points in these columns which I agree with is that in the long run, you are who you are. In the hundred plus years of college football it is amazing that everyone pretty much performs the same, with a very few changes.
How does this apply here? Era after era, Alabama has produced dynasties. They have won multiple titles in the 20s, 30s, 60s, 70s, and today. No matter the era, the Tide produce champions. Texas on the other hand has won 4 titles overall, which is 1 more than a school half its size in a state a quarter of its size directly to the east.
No matter the era, Alabama wins championships, Texas underperforms. In the long run, you are who you are.

Glad this came from someone not MU or A&M. It is truth to the core. Aggies may be difficult to deal with some times, but there really isn't any school or fan base that compares to the sips.

I live in Houston and you couldnt be more correct on your post....however, Saban is damn near a Brand now, if you think for one minute that he will have to battle for a recruit in this state vs anyone else your dreaming, kids want to go to Texas in this state, but they also want to play for and win national titles...how the hell do you think he got Louisiana's top three recruits?...He will own the states recruiting grounds from Day one. Book it..
Personally i dont think he goes...I wish he would but prob wont happen...the people with the power (the money people) will never allow total control (what Saban wants)... Its been said many times...and i work at Texas in the summers...

Kids want to play against full stadiums on ESPN, not half-empty stadiums in Aimes, Iowa and Manhattan, Kansas on Fox Sports 1.
Saban would get his guys, but so would we.
A&M will be fine.

Texas A&M fans run their mouths a lot and are totally delusional. That just makes them SEC fans, because we all are same way, whether we be A&M fans, or LSU fans, or Bama, Auburn, Ole Miss...everyone. We all troll other teams and say dumb things about our own.
Longhorn arrogance is much deeper rooted. It is not just fan blather..it permeates all levels from the fans to the school itself. Bevo TV is just the most blatant example. It really is almost unbelieveable it is so big, and way too many people not prepare to deal with it fall into the trap. You can see it in some of the responses here where some posters cannot believe that Texas does not have the recruiting advantages that they claim and does not have the ease of success that they claim.

The ONLY path for Texas to the Playoff next year is to go undefeated. So you are making the assumption that Saban is going to go undefeated in Year 1? Ok. That's the deal btw, it sucks to be in the 5th Best Conference in a 4 Team playoff. Baylor would likely be behind a 2 Loss Stanford Team for "1st out" this year while Michigan State and Bama got the 2 other bids.
You are also of course assuming that A&M is going to #decline in spite of significantly better recruiting than the outgoing classes (assuming this is the JFF factor).
Well, if both of those things happen then Texas will certainly do well recruiting against A&M. That's hardly a given though. What if A&M manages to maintain or even improve while Saban struggles out of the gate? Maybe you forgot that Saban lost to UL Monroe in Year 1 at Bama?
Don't forget that A&M is building the most impressive stadium in college sports right now and the facilities to match it. You just can't ignore the fundamental differences between the BDF and the SEC either in terms of exposure and interest.

These 3 comments are just flat out wrong.
It is LIGHTYEARS easier to recruit at Texas. That is a damn fact. Don't have to even leave the state for a majority of their players and often have top 10 classes wrapped up before summer is over. Mack hates recruiting and still dominated it for years. Better recruiting base, less big teams in close proximity, more money than anyone else, a much better school than Bama, and a MUCH MUCH better city in Austin says it is easier to recruit. Saban busts his fricking balls all over the South to recruit at Bama.
They EASILY have more money than most power schools. Enormous alumni base FILLED with oil money. They truly have unlimited money.
Harder to win? Just because Bama racked up wins before schollie limits with Bear Bryant doesn't mean Texas is harder to win at. They have top notch facilities and recruiting base and are in the Big 12. Saban would come in and win 10 games a year every year. If Mack fricking Brown could win 10 games a year for 9 years straight, think what Saban would do.
You are very, very wrong my friend.

He recruited well at LSU, but not nearly as well as he has at Alabama. You are assuming that all Saan has to do is show up and poof Texas is Alabama. It doesn't work that way.
People think that Saban's success at Bama is all him. It's not. It is the combo of him and the monster that is the University of Alabama. It takes both of them together to make the Tide who they are. The combo of Sabam and LSU was not nearly as good. And remember, this juggernaut that is the Saban Tide follows a period where Saban is considered one of the biggest failures in NFL history, so past failure did not affect his success now, menaing that current success would not nearly affect future success in Austin.
Texas is a big time program, but it is not Alabama. It does not have the advantages that Bama has. It does not have the track record of success that Bama has. I knwo that is hard for many of you to fathom, but look at the numbers over time. Texas just did not become Texas after the advent of Bevo TV. They have been Texas for 100 years. It hasn't helped.
