there isn't much evidence that brennan would have been that much worse.
based on what I saw Etling played better than Brennan. Nothing really blew my doors off when Brennan was in the game. I know you think Brennan would have turned into Joe Montana with a couple of games under his belt but that sounds more like wishful thinking.

It made no sense to give up on 2017 when we were still in the divisional race. None.

Is this the official line of this board? Coach O deserves a chance? Is this the new rally for Miles- we too dumb to know what good coaching is? Interdasting

ya, and 9 wins is better

no it's not. we didn't win anything of substances so 9 wins means the same as 6 wins

we didn't even win our shitty bowl

then you have to agree that O and his new OC get no rope in 2018

there is no learning curve for Brennan. any deficiencies are O's fault. if we lose early b/c of shaky QB play, that's on O

our year was not over. An SECW championship was still on the table.

the point is that Etling wasn't winning games for us and whatever deficiencies Brennan had would likely not have mattered much in terms of W/L

if we beat Auburn and Bama and didn't have a hiccup. essentially impossible

i mean you can prepare the team as if that 1% shot is likely to occur, but i don't think that way

this is just a ridiculous statement. Is 9 wins the same as zero wins? You won nothing in both cases.

I was joking earlier but I feel like you would legitimately be in favor of benching the seniors once we are out of the SEC championship race. Based on what you’ve said so far you’d have a hard time arguing the contrary.

Etling was atrocious against UF, UF is just a miserable team, don’t think you can call that one an L under Brennan

tough game to win on the road with a Freshmen. as meh as FL was Im pretty sure that was the first or second loss under McElwain in their building.

Opening drive of the 3rd Q, Etling led a 75 yard TD drive capped by a TD pass to tory carter.

and maybe we beat a&m by ever so slightly less, you can’t call that one a loss under him either

yea, or maybe we dont. Not exactly a win. The games with Brennan under center certainly would have been more doubt.

We did beat Auburn.

You’re advocating telling the football team and the fans, hell and Bama/Saban that frick it, we know if we beat you we are in the drivers seat to win the SECW but we don’t think it’s possible so we give up. frick man that’s insane. Thanks for the summer workouts and two a days guys but I just don’t see it happening so we’re shutting it down for this year even though we are still in the divisional race. No coach in history has done that.

It matters to the players and fans and admins and coaches.

its like you've never played sports in your life jake. Been playing too much fantasy stuff and video games.

even your example of Stafford had a learning curve his soph year after playing as a freshman. played absolutely horrible in losses to SC and Tenn. Completed a sad 55% of his passes on the year.

I dont expect Brennan to be perfect. Had he played this year I'd feel the same way.

what is you goal as a major CFB program?

to win championships or pad win stats?

if they were worse than their backups, yes

i honestly don't think Etling was that much better than Brennan. the increase in mistakes of Brennan would be outweighed by his insanely larger ability (especially throwing deep)

even though QB is unique (primarily b/c you can't really sub it out), i do think we should have had Phillips out there much earlier taking his lumps

Holy frick. Y'all are still arguing in this thread? Recruiting board is mostly elated. Landed a huge commitment from Kelvin Joseph today and we have more good recruits than we have remaining spots for.

On the other hand, the recruiting board was depressing as frick yesterday as I was trying to sell Ensminger to myself.

You already said that you would give up on a championship possibility because you would assume losing to auburn and Alabama.

SFP you just proved you know ZERO about college football.
Since when does hotshot quarterback = title?
Both LSU champions avg quarterback.
Georgia, as an example, has had boatloads of top quarterbacks and have won NOTHING.
Saying Saban’s Bama champions haven’t had top flight quarterbacks is like complaining about Helen of Troy’s choice of perfume.

ah but playing Darrel Williams does nothing to help us win next year. We are winning nothing this year so CEH and Nicholas! Should have played instead.

i have. people see sports very incorrectly b/c their irrational, emotional, and selfish. this selfishness makes people have issues, generally, with seeing the big picture. part of the coach's job, imho, is to establish that culture and belief system with the fans (and team)

your argument is very similar to the people who criticized the pats early on during their run for their ruthless dealings with veterans. lawyer milloy was the first great example. they used the same sorts of emotional arguments "this will never work because you're dealing with people blah blah blah" and look at their success

remove the human element
create an overall plan to maximize the path to titles
execute that plan ruthlessly and efficiently

outside of a supernova like Cam Newton, that's the only way to put yourself in a position to consistently win titles in CFB

i'll give you anoher example of the "talented freshman getting PT over the valued senior" meme: Desahwn Watson
