And in this case hiring the layup would be hiring Napier right now. Lots of people say "no". Good closers don't take no for an answer. Woodward is a good closer. That's not a guarantee we'll get Riley but we have a great shot and we'll end up with a great coach, not a layup.

Herman not coming in the end doesn't mean they were wrong reporting what they knew at the time.

Same thing happened with Saban to Texas years ago. I have a very connected family member on the UT side that confirmed 1000% that it was about as much of a done deal as there is, but then when the leak happened, Saban was PISSED and cancelled the whole thing.

Jimbo to LSU was all but done until the governor and school president weighed in on the optics based on the state's overall financial health and killed that deal.

There are countless examples in all types of business where a deal is 99.999999% of the way done but then something just falls apart at the finish line.

Hoping Woodward isn't left at the altar by whoever his #1 target is, whether that's Riley, Aranda, or whoever. If Woodward did his homework and picked his guy, I hope we get them.

At this point I feel like it has to be Chris Peterson. Both the Baseball and Womens Basketball hires were very surprising at least to me. Both those seem to have been the best possible hires. I think the football hire will play out the same way. Its hard to doubt SW. His track record is pretty good.
