They have all been at big time jobs, big time programs, for a while.

I am sure that when they arrived at Oklahoma/Penn State that they were obsessed with winning, that was their big chance etc.

They would all be making lateral moves to LSU, just for a few more bucks.

You don't want someone to come to LSU that isn't wowed, you don't want the South Carolina version of Spurrier.

I think someone like Fickell would have been great because he is the right mix of experience and youth.
Someone like Fickell would come in with their hair on fire, obsessed with recruiting and making his mark.

Yeah I know Saban killed it at bama after lsu, and the same for Urban at osu after florida, but the sabans and urbans of the world are few and far between.

You are comparing 37 year old Lincoln to a 70 year old Spurrier? Lol

I'll grant you that for Riley and Stoops, but not Franklin.

The move from PSU to LSU is a step up in many ways. Hell, he's openly upset at the lack of support he has there from the AD, the facilities suck, and he's in an inferior conference.

PSU has a good name, but it's not on the same level as LSU currently, and as a whole.

Spurrier was 60 when he started at south carolina.

You kind of missed the point.

I don't see any issue with Riley whatsoever.

You don't think Riley would be hungry AF at LSU with their defensive talent? Surely he is tired of being bounced every playoff appearance.

Heh. Still would not compare him to what South Carolina got in Spurrier at the time. Spurrier was at Florida for 11 years then went to the NFL before coming back to college.

And again this is LSU.

You have an opportunity to build something special that a great coach could actually sustain here.

What he's talking about is complacency, drive... or dare I say it... "want".

It was Miles' downfall with tDecline. It was Orgeron's downfall with tPussy. Both resulted in a lack of focus because they became complacent.

He has a point- do we want to import it? We generated it ourselves in-house, but got championships out of it along the way.

If we import it do we get the same result sans championships?

Riley has had top 10 recruiting classes since he arrived and he can't field a defense to compete in the big 12. Outside of 2020 he hasn't had a single one of his defenses in the top 50. There's nothing to indicate he would be able to make ours any better. So I would definitely say that there's an issue there. Defensive talent alone won't fix our defensive problems and not any D coordinator can come in and be successful at LSU. I think 2020 and 2021 have proven that.

Still trying to persuade LSU fans we should be pursuing someone other than Riley eh? The fear is real in this Bama fan. Riley isn't even 40 he would absolutely kill it at LSU and he probably would even improve as a coach. Yes, coaches can improve like players too.

I get that Riley is an offensive genius, but why does no one seem to care that his defenses are garbage year in and year out? What indications are there that he would be any different at LSU?

The price tag he would come with and his history of defense, I am not sure he should be the top guy. It wouldn't be a bad hire by any means but I just don't have any faith that he would fix the defense.

GSP is triggered a bit, I think, by all of the lofty talk of LSU’s football program as of late in the media. This is evidenced by his use of the common claims of “lateral moves” etc.

Bama fans are chasing a high… one that cannot even be satisfied by championships anymore. They need championships, and constant attention during everyone else’s coaching searches. Unbelievable.

Which could happen with literally any coach we hired.

Nice one. Even Paul Finebama would disagree with your sentiment

for what South Carolina’s history is Spurrier fricking killed it. One divisional title and won 11 games three years in a row. That’s the equivalent of LSU winning a National title three years in a row.
