So your worry is if we hire someone from the Saban coaching tree like Napier and he is extremely successful here and wins multiple championships Alabama might come along and poach him after Saban retires? Was this post in jest? If not, would you pass up dating a smoking hot lady because you're afraid someone else might frick her? I dont think that is the approach we should take IMO.

I’m from Alabama and had no clue until college. When I met that person in college I asked them what city in Utah they were from lol

Talk about counting your chickens. Pun intended. Just hire the best.

A world of pressure, true. But they’ll be walking into the best situation, talent wise, that anyone could possibly ask for.

I guess my point is that I would prefer we not be some stepping stone for Bama. Even modest success for Napier or Tucker (but not necessarily a title) might have us doing this search all over again in short time. We want stability.

I hear ya, I guess I just view LSU as a tier 1 program and that if we had a successful coach even from the Saban tree, that Alabama wouldn't easily be able to poach him. Neither of those guys have any specific strong ties to Bama, they didn't play there. I guess the short of it is I see it as a lateral move really and if their choice is our coach that is because he has the program humming and probably winning championships which would make him a fantastic hire for us IMO.

I get the point, just disagree

LSU at its peak should have no coach looking for greener pastures within the NCAA

LSU is equal to pretty much everything Alabama has to offer (Administration, facilities, money, support, recruiting, etc) outside of tradition and the past 15 years Saban has orchestrated

In no way during this hiring process am I not hiring the best candidate because I’m cautious down the road Alabama might pursue him. If Bama would, then LSU should confidently feel/know it should keep the coach

Bama will have a hard time replacing Saban…. Who wants to follow a legend and the greatest of all time …only one way to go which is down

Why? Just bury Bama like they were in the early 2000s and become the dominant program in the SECW.

Great point. If Bama doesn’t catch lightning in a bottle with Saban being available where is their program today? Nobody was afraid to play Bama at the time. Their coaching hires were uninspiring and multiple coaches were turning down the job.

One of the reasons Saban was successful at LSU is he didn’t have to go through a tough Bama team every year. They were just another opponent.

Yep. They were somewhat of a joke in the Independence Bowl with Joe Kline talking about stopping that inside trap. Honk if you sacked Brodie bumper stickers. Take a picture with the Bear exhibits at tailgates (skeleton with a houndstooth hat). They were pretty unimpressive for a good 15 or so years, a significant part of the modern era, but that time period obviously never happened in their minds. It's just been a continuous run from Bryant to Saban. And they almost hired Rich Rodriguez first.

Saban will leave them in a good spot but it will be fun to watch them inevitably fall off.

frick the tree, lets get the root, SABAN

Saban will be 70 on Oct 31. How much longer does he really want to coach?

Bama will come calling that person home if that person is successful at LSU and Saban retires...is that a risk worth taking for someone like Napier or Tucker?

Neither Napier or Tucker are Bama natives, just staff members. LSU is a Top 5 program in desirability for a HC. If they can have success here there is no need to move on unless they need to scratch the NFL itch.
