Also of note, if somehow Lane fails and Golding flourishes, he's even more of a lock to leave Ole Miss for LSU.

This was what ND did when Kelly left and it worked for them. With that, they also doubled all of their assistants salaries on offense to stay. They want to keep the staff whole. That was a good deal for them.
