we already have talent.
Posted on 11/27/07 at 11:39 am to lsupatterson
if we have the budget to hire coordinators i really don't think zook would be any worse than miles

and lose stupid games.

like i said
if we hire coordinators, no real difference from miles

our better version of Zook is on his way out.

He has a stench on him from the Florida days, and I don't think LSU would risk the image problem that comes with hiring the failed UF coach who gave way to UM who won a BCSCG with his players.
He's a great recruiter and his players love him. No denying what he's doing up at Illinois.
If it gets desperate, you never know.

potentially.
but Miles loses to an 8-4 Arkansas.
Zook loses to Mississippi state of 4 years ago which struggled to get 3 wins.
not to mention he lost 5 games every year at Florida.

Zook can out recruit Miles any day of the week.
Zook really did have an empty cupboard when spurrier left. He did beat Saban in Tiger Stadium.
The main reason, is that if he doesn't work out, then the cupboard won't be bare. (See UF and Urban Meyer)
Meyer won with Zook's recruits as much as Miles won with Saban's.
WHereas, Spurrier would leave the cupboard bare.

I could say more.
Many UF fans believe the reason they are so young this year is that Zook failed to put together complete classes. He was great at landing big names and stars at certain positions, but didn't fill the classes with enough depth to be solid all around (something which is greatly overlooked in recruiting).
So, his greatest strength (recruiting) may not exactly be as wonderful as is believed.

and somehow he left enough to win a national title

You know you have been too into this when you Ron Zook starts to make sense. I need a break.

If Miles leaves, I think Zook would be a good hire. As proven in the past we can certainly do much worse.

Well of the major contributors:
Reggie Nelson (who Meyer had to re-recruit in 05)
Chris Leak
Jarvis Moss
Eric Wilbur
Derrick Harvey
Tony Joiner
Brandon Siler
Those were the Zook recruits who majorly contributed...
Dallas Baker
Ray McDonald
DeShawn Wynn
All guys from the '02 class when Spurrier left. Won't pretend to know how many were Spurrier guys and how many were Zook guys.
All told, a total of 10 significant contributors (I'm sure there were a few o-lineman too but I can't recall their names)..

right, bowl eligible teams.
Mississippi State was 3-8. If we mocked Saban for losing to them this year, when MSU is actually decent and Saban had significantly less to work with than Zook... how bad must that have been?
Zook was the first coach to get Croomed. Just keep telling yourself that.

I don't want Zook, I'm just saying Zook and Miles are not all that different.

Yes and No.
I would say Miles has never lost a game as bad as MSU.
In fact, since he's been at LSU he's lost to 1 non-bowl eligible opponent 5-6 Tennessee... and there were certainly some extraneous circumstances in that game.
