If we had hired him all we would hear is "Thanks Jeff Long, Arkansas's tradition of shitty defenses will continue" or some shite like that

Why did Tennessee not reach out to Briles?

Because they're not a destination job

There is only one job Briles would take, and it's certainly not Tennessee

Briles would have been the better hire by far.

Meh, not really. Baylor stil was 7-5 after all. Its only one game against a meh UCLA team.

I believe that I read somewhere at the time that Tennessee, Arkansas and Auburn all reached out to him to gauge interest during their searches. Considering the fact that he is 57, if he really turned down all three of those SEC jobs without so much as a conversation then I really don't think he is leaving Baylor unless it is for the Texas or A&M jobs. It just seems apparent that he has no urge to leave the state.

I think he is watching the situation at Texas with great interest. And it's mutual.

Yea, a 58 year old coach who you would have to pay almost $4M to get who has a barely over .500 career record and can't field a defense if his life depended on it.

Instead, we hired a 42 year old coach for 3.2M and has won 74% of his games and has a reputation of building strong defenses and is putting together one of the elite staffs in the nation.

CLEARLY he screwed the pooch.

Briles is from Texas, went to school in Texas and only has experience in Texas. He isn't leaving unless it is a top tier job or it has some type of ties to Texas. Arkansas recruits heavily out of Texas (or at least did now with TAMU in SEC) so he wouldn't be that displaced

They did those their Heisman QB and a 1st round WR from last season.

Even with that they blew out the No. 1 team in the country and won their last 4 games.

OC: Jim Chaney - great QB and OL coach
OL: Sam Pittman - Top 5 OL coach in the country and top 25 recruiter
RB: Joel Thomas - Coached a 1,000+ yard rushed 6 years in a row, good TX and CA recruiter
WR: George McDonald - Very good WR coach and top 25 recruiter

DC: Chris Ash - Wisconsin had a Top 25 defense since he arrived in 2010
DL: Charlie Partridge - Very good DL coach and great Florida recruiter

Also rumored he has hired Randy Shannon to coach Linebackers.

I'll have to take you word for it. I don't recognize most of those names.
