Lane wanted the job. His family came first. Have to respect that

Freeze is an interesting hire. If you are hiring the same Freeze at his Ole Miss peak then its a great hire.

But this is a Hugh Freeze that when a recruit's parent googles his name, they get a man who cheats on his wife with prostitutes, lies using God's name to back his lies, and then goes to the most Republican school in the country to rebuild his character. Momma's can fall for a good Biblical redemption story, but I'm not sure if his is the one they will like.

Good points. You have to believe the negative recruiting against him will be cut throat. Not that that sort of thing goes on but it could happen.

Didnt Freeze just sign an extension like 2-3 weeks ago?

Dude just cost himself a little buyout money. Not sure why coaches don’t wait until after the season to sign these extensions. It’s not like the universities will pull their offers if not signed during the season

Oh please they won’t give a shite when that $$$ is being waved at them. All of that other stuff will become irrelevant.

Absolutely. It always benefits the schools

Imagine that the ad turned the new head coach in at their former schools. Will Cohen teach CHF some new tricks?

Please be smarter than this. They didn’t have enough loose rally girls in Oxford, so they hired some during recruiting weekends. It was no for Freeze.

The buyout money will be paid by the new school, in this case, it is auburn. The harder it is to get CHF, the bigger a package CHF is going to get

That’s the way contract negotiations work.

Sources: Lane Kiffin's Auburn candidacy had significantly cooled in the last 48 hours. The pull of his family wanting to stay in Oxford had become an obstacle for both sides in Kiffin becoming the next Auburn coach.

Also, Lane Kiffin suddenly looked like a mediocre coach losing 4/5 and making multiple questionable calls during games.

A lot of times these are done on purpose. The schools know they can’t keep their coach (especially smaller schools that know a coach is a hot commodity and is going to get offers), so the coaches sign the extension, make the buyouts higher, and that buyout money goes to the school.

So basically, Sexton played Auburn to get Lane a huge raise

Wrong. They played Ole Miss to get Lane a huge raise at Ole Miss.

In the last few hours, Auburn’s search has moved from Lane Kiffin and zeroed in on Liberty coach Hugh Freeze, sources tell @SINow. Negotiations are on-going and could be finalized as soon as tonight.

This is correct. Ole Miss got played to get Lane a raise but they knew they were going to have to pay him anyways.
I am sure there were substantial talks even with Sexton.
Pulling the “family” card after being deep on negotiations is genius. You cannot argue with it.
I would not be surprised if that time his kid was on the shoulders of the player was not orchestrated as part of the family push.
