1) No head coaching experience
2) Def Coord for Saban. It is Saban's defense, there is no disputing that. So even his defensive credentials can reasonably be called into question.

Not saying he is not a good coach, he may well be. I just feel we need something "more."

Our last two attempts at Saban disciples were complete train wrecks. Plus I wonder how much Smart is actually calling the shots on that defense. Saban is a defensive guy and I could see him being a complete control freak and using Smart as just a puppet.

after dooley and sinseri, there's less than a zero percent chance they hire another saban disciple.

I would, but I completely understand the reason people don't want him. Smart is very well respected from people in the coaching world and some believe he is even a better DC than Will Muschamp. He has extremely strong ties in the Georgia area which is critical to Tennessee's success and he has a lot of freedom running the defense. I know for a fact Smart is the coach that calls that defensive audibles.

The biggest negative with Smart is if he turns out to be a great hire, he is gone when UGA comes calling. 0 head coaching experience is risky too, but so is every coach thats not a pipe dream. He could be the next Will Muschamp or he could be the next Randy Shannon. Its hard to tell. That's just my two cents.

The best thing for UT is to hire a coach that will unite the fanbase, Smart definitely would not be the guy to do that. I'm positive he will be successful where ever he goes though.

UT is too big a job to take chances on Assistants, IMHO. I think Tedford would be good, if he did like Little Nicky did when he came to LSU: hire assistants from the South. Saban brought nobody from MSU with him. Went out and got Fisher, Muschamp, Dooley, etc.

Well, he is familiar with UT, having whipped their asses a couple times. Better than what you've had. Laugh away, you're the one WINLESS in the SEC.

You mean once, right? UT won 2006. Cal won 2007.

You go winless in the SEC when you have Dooley at the helm. I've accepted it and I'm at peace with it. I've instead gotten my entertainment this season from dumb fricks like you pretending to know what they're talking about.

I would hate to see him go. I like the idea of him staying around until Nick Saban retires.

it's Saban's defense at Alabama.

Kirby Smart and Sal Sunseri are Saban's puppets. they are easily replaceable. Saban on the other hand is irreplaceable.
