Sumrall is not my first choice, but he is absolutely not the same as Napier. He’s better.

He is better than Napier but I think he needs a little more experience before the LSU job.
It doesn't have to be the biggest name in the business though. When we hired Les Miles from Ok State he wasn't the biggest name on the board.
Solid coach with proven experience is what he was.
He gave us 10 years at LSU and kept us relevant every year.
Anyway back to Sumrall. Sumrall needs one more big job before being in consideration for a job like LSU.

We are doomed if we hire him

Auburn would probably be more likely.

Based on what, specifically?

quote:this is the coaching search of 10 years ago. Smaller schools are paying coaches millions/year now. Sumrall is approaching $3 million a year. He doesn't need to take a job like Kentucky, etc in order to get hired by a big time program. He can just make $3 million at Tulane and a bigger school will eventually hire him.

I'm not even saying I want him. I'm just saying that the landscape is different now. Coaches don't have a need to go to a bad school at a high conference in order to prove themselves and make good money.

I've been saying this. He is in a good spot and he can wait for the right opportunity for him.
Guy I work with thought Sumrall would jump at the first Power conference job because he thought Sumrall was making 500k a year at Tulane.

He played and coached at Kentucky. That's why it gets brought up.

I have no idea if he's the guy or not, but I love the shift in the LSU fanbase to being open to an up and comer.

Kentucky might be the single worst job in the SEC in this era. They are giving their basketball team like triple the budget of the next closest.
Summ will probably get a better job, like Auburn
