Sumlin vs Other SEC Coaches....

Tell me if I'm off base for looking at current and former SEC coaches resumes before they got their SEC gig, and comparing them to Sumlins...and not finding a glaring difference.
I'm not saying Sumlin is my #1 guy, or that I'm convinced he'll do well at A&M....but in hindsight, were any of the guys on this list any safer the day they were hired?

I will just say Kevin Sumlin has been good with Case Keenum, the year he didn't have him they weren't any good.
He also hasn't recruited that well. I just don't understand the infatuation with him.

Fair....but what about Urban Meyer with Alex Smith? Is that a vastly different situation?
I'm asking because I honestly do not know...
And whats funny is that Les Miles has by far the worst looking record on that entire list. Look at him now.

Sumlin should have been hired instead of Dooley in 2010.

I don't understand this argument. What has Keenum done without Sumlin coaching him that was so impressive.

He lost Keenum and the back-up in the same quarter! He tried the third string who couldn't handle the pressure and played that year with his 4th string QB

He recruited very well at Purdue, Texas A&M and OU. He recruited Adrian Peterson.

Leach's numbers at tt were the same S Dykes. He didn't really improve the program any. And speaking of horrible recruiters...
I love Leach and think he'll be fine at WSU. But not at A&M. No thank you

Obviously you are going to justify Sumlin whatever way you can because he is about to be your new coach.
I am not saying he is some horrid hire, he may be great. But what I don't understand is every major BCS fighting and raising the bidding price to get him.

He took over an OSU program that was awful. He also beat OU two out of the four years he was there and he was winning some recruiting battles and upgrading the talent.

I say A&M goes after Sumlin big time. I feel they want someone that can recruit Houston hard. LSU has been cherry picking that triangle for years and they know it. A&M is targeting LSU with this hire.

Interesting thought. Hadn't thought of that and dint think I agree with it. But nice input.
And A&M dominated Houston this year if it hangs on to the current class. Where A&M needs to improve is East Texas and Dallas.
And FTR, Sumlin wasn't my first choice but I'm obviously warming up since it looks foregone

There isn't a garantee. I just think what the baylor coach has done is more impressive. that guy has recruited well, there isn't a question about that.

When aTm goes public that they already have the contract worked out with Sumlin they will turn their attn to DC. Maybe they should put a big money offer out for Chavis or Smart. I doubt Smart goes for it but how would Chavis react?

Depends on how much LSU wants him. Nobody is going to moneywhip LSU or A&M. So really it's just who wants a coach more.

After the way DeRuyter destroyed Sumlin in the Armed Forces Bowl 2 years ago I bet Sumlin is impressed with him and will try and retain him. We were 11 and 12 in total D in the Big XII before DeRuyter and 2nd and 4th with him and that's with major injuries/lack of depth this year
