Saban seasons at MSU (not chronological):

the year before he got there MSU was 5-6, his first year they were 6-5.

Miles seasons at OkS (not chronological):
4-7
7-5
8-5
9-4

the year before he got there OkS was 3-8, his first year they were 4-7

There was legitimate skepticism about both coaches among the LSU faithful when they were hired. But in retrospect both did better in their stays at MSU/OkS than the coaches that preceded them... and both programs had worse records the year after they left than they did in their last year

Agree with the larger point made by an aggie on coaching searches. Identifying who is really the kind of coach able to build and maintain an elite program is the obvious desire. And for fans at least it is really hard to tell a Ron Zook from a Les Miles at the time they are hired.
