Successful retreads?

I'm going to do some research, but can anyone think off of the top of their head if anyone has failed miserably as HC and gotten another HC job and been successful? (NCAA or NFL)

That wasn't a complete failure. He got them to the playoffs, but i didn't think of that one.

Yeah, and he had three years of declining results with New England before sitting out a year then going to USC. Does that disqualify him as a successful retread for the NFL somehow?

in desending order, before Orgeron there was Cutcliffe then Tubberville then this guy
before that was this guy
they were just as bad and thats only among recent Ole Miss coaches. that place has sucked for decades, Orgeron can hardly be blamed for that.

Yet in the last twenty years, of the 7 losing seasons Ole Miss has had, Coach O was in charge for 3 of them.
The season after Coach O was canned Houston fricking Nutt won 10 games.

Oh my bad. He won 9 games two years in a row, nearly doubling Coach O's win total.
And two were better than any Coach O has ever had.
Again, this does nothing to moderate my claims that of the last twenty years, Coach O has had 3 of the 7 losing seasons Ole Miss has had.
In fact, Nutt had nearly as many wins as O had losses. That's fricking awful.

Come on guys. Belechik and Carroll were mediocre at thier first jobs. That's why other teams picked them up pretty quickly. Also, winning in the nfl is not like winning in college. Most coleges like ole mid have 4-5 built in wins. The talent on team vs team in college varies greatly. Nfl, it doesnt.

I'm sure he's learned since then, just like other coaches do. BUT hedging your bets that a coach with a lifetime 27% win pct is going to all of the sudden become an elite level HC and win NCs is very unrealistic.

This is the second thread you've tried this line of nonsense and you should feel silly for the attempt.

Nutt's last year was equally as bad as Orgeron's but Ed lacked any of the success prior. Keep in mind as well the SEC West was much better by then than it was during Orgeron's tenure there. Saban was rolling. Petrino was better than Nutt in Arkansas. Mullen was an improvement. Alabama was in beast mode and LSU was pretty outstanding (at least in 11)
In short, there were times of success for every coach not named Ed Orgeron at Ole Miss in recent history. There is no way around this part of his history. He has an absence of success as a head coach at any school for an entire season. After Kiffin was fired he went 1-2 against the big game opponents at USC - getting blown out at home by UCLA. He has no history to make you think he should be given the LSU job.
