Sources: Chip Kelly not guaranteed to return at UCLA

UCLA has shown improvement in Chip Kelly’s third season in Westwood; however, Kelly is not guaranteed to return in 2021 even with a win over Stanford on Saturday.
Industry sources tell FootballScoop on Thursday that new Bruins AD Martin Jarmond plans to evaluate all options following this game, including potentially making a change from Kelly, whom he inherited upon his hiring in May.
In the event UCLA does move on from Kelly, sources tell FootballScoop Jarmond would be expected to vet the interest of Urban Meyer and Chris Petersen.

ETA: AD is disputing the report

Didn’t the UCLA AD already deny the report?

They might as well have hired Tigerdroppings as the AD. We would have hired Gruden or Bilichick.

UCLA could never afford urban Meyer. Technically it’s a state school I’ll get the UC system and that’s the reason why they haven’t been able to hire bigger things for either basketball or football. The majority of salary would have to come from donors.

Football scoop is a rumor mill.
I know the guy, he reads message boards and Twitter for info.

In his defense, you can sometimes get some legit info from boards.
It still cracks me up that a poster at TexAgs of all places was on top of the Rhett Bomar scandal at OU b/c a poster's girlfriend worked at the dealership that was paying him to not show up to work.

I thought UCLA actually impressed me this year. They competed in every game.

So just like LSU and every other big program?
O’s salary from state is only like 300k or something

Agree, got better as year went on

Man I had no idea he was still at UCLA. I had to look at the date on the post twice.

Spoiler, neither of those guys are taking the ucla job.

It's year 3 of his tenure, competing in every game in a conference with maybe two above average teams should be mandatory out of him.

I think UCLA should just wait this one out for a change. They haven't been relevant since Troy Aikman.

What in UCLA's history makes this even remotely a top job? Even with the new football facility, having to play in a cavernous old stadium away from campus with little fan support other than 1 game is not appealing. Yea, the Rose Bowl has history, but it's nothing like what the college football elite has.
Terry Donahue only averaged 7 wins a year for 20 years, and he is their hero. Yea, he had some good years, but he had just as many shitty years. No other coach in modern history has had even remotely sustained success.
Not sure what makes anyone think this is a top level job.

They were almost in the first BCS championship game.

They've had several solid teams since. They were one game away from the national title in 98

quote:one of the two major programs in one of the most talent rich areas of the country. And that has allowed it to normally be a decent recruiting program. That is a decent start for any job. Its solid top 20 but obviously has it shortcomings with fan support, institutional support, and how detached the rose bowl is from campus

quote:thats an interesting way of framing his tenure. Yea, the 90s ultimately weren't kind to donahue. But a lot of programs would have been more than fine with the 80s that UCLA had under him
