Per espn (and a bunch of other reporters) the Falcons have offered Arthur Smith their HC job.

He has backed out of his interview with the Lions today so it sounds like he is taking this offer.

Mediocre choice. The only thing that scares me as a Saints fan is he did revitalize the career of Tannehill. He’s stuck with Ryan at QB for a while so he’s working from a bad hand already.

Beat me to it. Here's the report from Dianna Russini, who's FAF BTW.

The Atlanta Falcons have made an offer to Arthur Smith to become their next head coach per sources. Smith has been the offensive coordinator for the Titans the last 2 seasons.

And this is where you contradict yourself and your first sentence. Smith turned Ryan fricking Tannehill into a top-10 QB the last 2 years. He was damaged goods when he came from Miami. He has always been my first choice. I have been hard on Blank, but it seems like he got this one right.

He's done a solid job with the Titans, but don't forget they've relied on play-action off of Derrick Henry and have some great weapons to throw to, as well as a very good offensive line.

Tannehill is surrounded by a cast that really helps him succeed.

I agree with the mediocre hire part. But Ryan >> Tanneyhill by a lot.

Umm Falcons better find a RB like Henry if they want this coach to be successful, and I hope they don't

Smith deserves a ton of credit for Henry's success too. In Henry's first three years, he ran for 490, 744, and 1,059 rushing yards. Then in his last two years under Smith, his production has exploded. The previous two Titans OCs had Henry splitting carries with other running backs for whatever reason. Smith was at least smart enough to realize what an underutilized weapon Henry was and that he needed to get as much touches as possible.

Yeah that's fair. That OL deserves some credit too.

allow me to introduce you to Najee Harris....also when the Saints lose to the Bucs this weekend and Fontenot leaves and heads to Atlanta they will get some good value in this draft and work that Defense as well...

Is this more of an indictment on Arthur Smith or Adam Gase?

You just have to tune Saints fans out. The Falcons could hire Vince Lombardi and they would shite on it by saying he isn't bringing Paul Hornung and Jim Taylor with him.
