“ Someone explain to me why "boosters" should have any influence?”

Do you think the money to buy Ed out is coming from the SEC contract?

If you were paying every penny of Orgeron’s 17 million dollar buyout, don't you think you’d want to have SOME kind of say in who you’d prefer the replacement be?

Everywhere you see a CFB program sustain excellence over a period of time, you're going to see that they have a prominent booster presence. At the very least, their donations help to build better facilities.

Also, who do you think provides "strong arse offers" to recruits? Paper trail can't be traced back to the athletic budget.

if there's a vaccine mandate where you live you have to see if their definition of "fully vaccine" includes 1,2, or 54 booster shots. That's why booster may have an influence.

Or... boosters have influence because money IS influence. And money is how you pay buyouts, signing bonuses, and promise interviewees the world. The idea that these buyouts and/or the vast bulk of a coaches salary coming from public money is laughable. The vast majority is private funds, i.e. boosters.

Look at it this way: If that money did come from funds other than boosters, such as public funds or tuition, the politicians would exert an untold amount of influence rather than a handful of boosters (the one's that can change whether or not there's enough cash for a buyout).

Would you rather a fan, a rich fan, have the influence or some politician (of any color/stripe)? I'd rather have the rich fan.

And in reality, these boosters are "sold" on the idea of what the AD or BoS wants to do. They don't steer it. You have to win their support; but if you don't you go put together more numerous and less rich boosters to make up the shortfall and that un-sold booster just sits that one out.

Could you link where you found LSU gets hundreds of millions ?

Here is what I found

USA Today article from july 2021

quote:

At $812 million, that would mean the SEC and its partners seeing these deals being worth $58 million per school. Or, looking at it another way, each school brings an average of $58 million of value to the deals.

And

SECSports.com article from Feb 2021

quote:

The average per school distribution increased from $44.6 million in 2018-19, not including bowl money retained by participants.

....no, lackeys like you don't get to have influence. But baws like Bernhard and Jim Flores get to have influence. If Woodward were to blow them off, they go to the BoS .....or the governor who appoints the BoS. The AD has to answer to someone.

I actually agree with you in principle, but that's just not how the world works. When I was in high school parents got several of my band directors fired, and that's high school band where the parents pay very little. The people who are paying millions for the buyout are going to want some say in who gets hired and fired.
