The program wasn't good, but it wasn't in shambles. Dooley had an 8-5 record and Independence bowl win in his second year.
Not saying that the Dooley hire isn't risky at best, but everybody great coach gets their first break somewhere.

as more is starting to come out, it looks like lane did in fact leave a complete fricking mess behind

The previous coach's season-by-season records:
3-8
1-11
1-11
2-9
1-10
Here are Gill's season-by-season records:
2-10
5-7
8-6
5-7
He had made a bowl in just his third year after rebuilding a mess. And again, it's Buffalo. There's a reason why LA Tech (or pretty much every other FBS program) has had much more
success than Buffalo. It's difficult to win in that geographic location where there's very little high school talent.
Dooley had the talent to use and he had basically the same winning percentage as his predecessor. There's really no comparison.

What you reading?

Tell me that's not in shambles.
Before 1999 they were a I-AA team and before 1992 they were a Divison-III team. They were 10-69 after going I-A. From 1987 until now, they had one winning season in 1996 until Gill in '08. They have been aweful and Gill brought a spark, but it's not like they were ever any good to begin with. After the death penalty, SMU was in shambles, Buffalo just sucks as per usual.

Probably the cover up of JJ in the robbery... but I have a negative enough opinion about Kiffin to speculate there will be more

That's the point. It's an uphill battle to win at Buffalo. They don't have the same inherent advantages as LA Tech.
Again, Kansas hired Gill. Kansas is a low to mid tier Big XII football program. It's not like Florida just hired Gill.

It is an uphill battle to win at Buffalo but winning at La Tech doesn't strike me as particularly easy

Why didn't Tennessee just hire Jack Bicknell?

This really proves how fricking little you know about what you're talking.

Please enlighten me.
-Seriously, I want to know what sets Dooley apart.

So I gather that Dooley was super enthusiastic, raised a ton of money and made people excited about the program?...Things that he won't have to focus so much on at a great historic program like UT.
Any insight into his coaching abilities? Why is he going to win? That's all I want to know.

and don't bring this bullshite to me a year from now when tennessee's 4-9 next year. No 'great hire' coach could save them completely from what they will lose in recruiting and their schedule next year.
kiffin had them at 7-6 this year, right?
