If the AD wasnt such a moron they probably could have done a decent search and gotten a more qualified candidate.
and lost every fricking recruit they have from the #6 recruiting class in the nation. great plan.

nope
tennessee was in a fricked up situation, i guess dooley is the best they could do
but like i said, that still doesnt make it a good hire

That's not good logic either. Hire a coach that's not ready just to keep one year of good recruiting... not to mention that the recruits might not like the hire either and bail anyway. I would rather get the coach right and worry about the rest later.

i guess we'll see won't we.
and don't bring this bullshite to me a year from now when tennessee's 4-9 next year. No 'great hire' coach could save them completely from what they will lose in recruiting and their schedule next year.
give dooley time, then you can cast your stones all you want and i'll be the first to offer you congrats.

yea, we will see
which is why i dont get why everyone is sucking this dude off
strictly looking at his resume, its underwhelming to say the least

Losing 1/2 one recruiting class but hiring a good coach >>> Losing 1/3 of that recruiting class and hiring an average coach

Skip Holtz is coming off back to back CUSA championships maybe UT should have looked at him

I thought your argument was that Dooley was a good coach? This question tends to leave him as not a "good coach." I think Tennessee is just rushing to much. Putting a deadline of one week to hire a coach after a complete suprise like this is not good.

Ohh so Kiffin didn't ride Daddy's coat tail to get his name in the hat on a few hires?
I never defended the kiffin hire, I hated it. Still at the very least he brought his legendary dad with him to coach the D.

All I'm saying is here's you, BillJ, and whoever else in this thread ripping me for repping Dooley, when you know nothing about Dooley, and yet you all can't name an available, interested, coach who's willing to jump in at Tennessee after the mess Kiffin left it in.

Hardly, I just don't agree and I don't have a serious problem with Dooley. I don't think he's ready but he won't fall flat on his face. He'll have to hire a great staff IMO.
As far as interested, that's my point. UT hasn't given anyone time to catch up. You have to be hired by this weekend or you ain't getting it. Not to mention they are telling whoever they hire that we have these five coaches here that you have to take. A good bit of them not finding an "interested" head coach with a big name is mostly because of their AD's idiocy.

I have no idea about the inner workings of the UT athletic department. From the outside looking in, I think their AD completely fricked this up and scared off any realistic better possibilities with his demands of keeping certain coaches on staff.

and I disagree with kiffin leaving the place a mess. Yes he fricked up the current recruiting class, but nothing too incredibly damaging like pending sanctions.

well one things for sure, dooley will clean whatever mess or not mess ther is up.
Posted on 1/15/10 at 2:29 pm to Baloo
I haven't seen anything about possible serious sanctions. I could be wrong though
was he eventually headed down that road though? Probably

I put this hire right up there with AU hiring Gene Chizic or Kansas hiring Turner Gill.
Chizik was a proven defensive coordinator who had success at Auburn before becoming a HC. At least we know what he's good at.
Gill had a winning season in his third year after taking over a program that was in shambles. It's extremely difficult to win at Buffalo - much more so than LA Tech. And it's Kansas that hired him. Who else should they have gotten?
