Okay, then how can a team that goes 13-1 one season with another staff's players go to shite the second season?

I think it is a 2 things

1. A lack of focus, which i talked about in another post

and

2. losing a lot of veteran OLinemen. Even if you recruit the best 3 stars, Freshmen and Sophmore 3 stars still aren't as good as junior and senior 3 stars.

You want LSU fans to disregard Herman's losses this year? Only look at last years 13-1 season, huh?

I think they shoudl look at them, but he is 8-2 so he has a lot more wins than loses.

I think he finishes out 10-3

So he will be 23-4 as a head coach beating some really good football teams with a very middle of the road roster. Thats more important to me than whether he played well against SMU this year.

I see you're still hung up on the total offense number against Tulane even after admitting you didn't watch the game and have no clue what actually happened in the game.

Boxscores don't lie. I know you said the QB was banged up. I then pointed out that when Houston lost to Navy the starting QB was playing, when they lost to SMU the starting QB was playing, when they struggled to beat both Tulsa and UCF at home by 7 points each the starting QB was playing.

This isn't just about the Tulane game it is about a stretch of five games. Tulane just happens to be the most recent and it is easy for me to remember the 292 total yards.

Is Houston the only team to have an injured QB this year? Is he going to be healthy against Louisville?

1. They're not "shite".
2. When you lose 11 or 12 starters from one year to the next, then get hit with the injury bug, a setback can happen. Even still, he sits at 8-2 in a "bad" year.

Louisville is a superior team. Given Houston's current situation this game shouldn't be close.

No, I didn't. I stated what happened, which I knew because I actually watched the game, and it was much worse than the QB just being "banged up".

There is a difference between an AD firing a coach and a Coach choosing to leave.

First off these aren't totally Herman's players at Houston. He has only been there 1 full season and part of this season. Les was at LSU when every player on the team signed.

Houston did just fine last year with a new coach. It didn't seem to bother them then.

quote:

Les was fired because he wasn't doing his job well

Agree and why I think it would be idiotic for LSU to fire Les Miles after the career he had and hire a guy who will possibly finish the season at 8-5 when his team was more talented than the majority of the teams they faced. How the hell would they explain that to whoever is handing them the money.

"Hey we fired Les Miles, meet our new coach who just went 8-5 or 9-4."

quote:

I think the players liked him, but they were tired

So, hire Herman?

quote:

How is he supposed to keep them motivated and committed to the team if they know he isn't?

At one time this season his team was ranked #6 in the country, undefeated with a shot at the playoffs. Is that not enough for a football team to be motivated against Navy and SMU?

And Navy, Tulsa, SMU, UCF and Tulane all returned all of their players from the previous year? Losing players happens in college football.

So now Herman was only good last year because the previous coach left the cupboard stacked? I thought I read in this thread that he was a GREAT coach because the last coach didn't leave him any players.

That is being very optimistic in my opinion. But, it could happen.

Have you ever taken up for and made this many excuses for an LSU coach? I just don't get the love for Herman.

The game is at Houston. Houston just put 292 total yards against Tulane at Houston.

Houston's qb was playing injured and was eventually knocked out of the game. They were up 28-6 at halftime and the game wasn't really close.

Losing on the very last play of a bowl game has no correlation to performing poorly for five straight games.

They checked out before they got the flight to Orlando. I remember Saban going off on Jacques Doucet while they were getting on the bus. They checked out. It was so obvious during the week and Players showed it. Lsu was two touchdows better than Iowa. The whole Miami offer didn't develop legs until after the Arkansas game.

You're leaving out that 251 of these yards came in the first half when Houston built a 28-6 lead and before Ward left with an injury. 292 looks bad, but understandable considering Ward was knocked out of the game.

Well I've also left out the fact that Houston is playing the 94th toughest strength of schedule in the country. So sue me.

If Houston is so checked out how could they have possibly come back and score 28 points in the second half against UCF to win the game? That doesn't sound like a team who has quit to me.

Can you admit that Houston's back up qb playing the second half is the reason why UH only had 41 total yards and no points after halftime?

You shouldn't lump Tulane into this so called "awful" 5 game stretch.

The backup got knocked out of the game early in the third quarter, so they actually had to play the second half with the starter who couldn't throw because of his injury at the end of the first half.
