The difference is that we are both looking at him from different sides. I choose to look at what he’s accomplished. If the rumors are true that he was mostly responsible for what Max looked like the last two games, then I’m all aboard. No one coordinator will be infallible. I just don’t think that he’s a lazy hire or completely incapable of being a solid play caller like some of you make him out to be because “of a fluff piece.”

No I agree and am fine with Callaway. But there are plenty of reasons to be leary and people need to stop trying to recreate Brady and understand he was a statistical outliers and not the norm.

I just can't stand when others say they have a "gut" feeling about Callaway, yet don't even know what system he runs.

And I can’t stand when people think coaches are married to a particular offensive system forever.

It’s obvious that Orgeron likes the current offensive system. He may not have liked some of the play-calling and execution, but he doesn’t want to implement a new system.

If Calloway were to get the job, he would be expected to run LSU’s current offense. I doubt any offensive coordinator would blow everything up and start over.

So when you refer to “what system he runs” it would be LSU’s system. Just because he ran the air raid in his past doesn’t mean that’s all he can run.

This gets to an interesting point that related to how Saban runs things at Bama. Since Kiffin re-vamped their offense, they have not changed their offense through two other OCs. I’m sure both Locksley and Sark have added lots of wrinkles and plays, but Bama isn’t changing their offense when the OC changes. The system remains the same. And we know their defense has run that way since Saban got there.

The best thing O can do going forward is to establish set offensive and defensive philosophies that we stick with. That would insure continuity, even as staff leave for different reasons and new people replace them.

Thank you for making this clear to LSU777! He is a little slow and condescending in his posts. Just as you said, Callaway would clearly run the LSU system, and the air raid is not all he can run.

People keep saying this, but the 2019 offense was basically an Air Raid with a little more balance and some spread concepts sprinkled in. It wouldn’t be some huge adjustment for him.

Pelini was def a lazy hire.

Are you kidding me with this shite

They tried to get odom and he turned them down. "Hey scott you know anybody?" . "Yeah this guy pelini, who has been in obscurity for the last 5 year!"

Agreed. The question is not what Calloway (or anyone else) has run in the past, but whether they are capable to run LSU’s current offense.

Of course, their past would influence them and they would add wrinkles, but the overall system and terminology would remain the same.

Orgeron gets a lot of criticism, much of it deserved, but he had a great plan on offense for long-term stability. Brady leaving after only one season messed that up. Hopefully the next OC can get that plan back on track.

It’s nice to have an insider that knows all the secret details. You should post more often with all your scoop, including direct quotes. Impressive!!

It turned out to be a shitty hire. Read this thread. I’ve said it multiple times. He deserved to be fired.

I disagree with “lazy”

It’s easy to bitch about failed coaches in hindsight.

But that's not what's happening here.

It was clearly a lazy hire. Who else did they interview besides odom? That was a really quick search.

You can keep defending it but it was lazy. Former lsu guy, check. Woodward knows him, check. Give him 2.3 mil for no reason, check.

Guy had been in obscurity for at least 4 or 5 years

Blame Woodward for the shitty contract. I’m not defending that.

Pelini failed because he apparently lost his drive and work ethic. That’s not his history or past reputation.

A large percentage of coaching hires will fail. This hire failed. I personally thought it was a good hire on the front end. We can disagree.

I did hate the Linehan hire.
