re: So, are all the Calloway posts a set up?

I don't think "lazy hire" is necessarily disqualifying.
What I'm questioning is whether Ed has enough football vision, acumen, and toughness to hire the best people and stick with them. Whether they're in our backyard or far away.

Whether or not I like O or have moved on is beside the point. My concern about LSU's diligence in the hiring process remains. If LSU wants to win championships, they need to do a better job with their hires.
LSU won a championship in 2019 because O had a great staff and had exceptional and experienced talent on both sides of the ball. Aranda was a top-shelf DC and there was some magic between E and Brady on the offensive side of the ball. I'm not sure how much their shadow staff contributed, but that probably played a role. All of that, combined with a once in a 2 generation QB with 3 elite receivers and a 1st round NFL multi-purpose back made last year a difficult to repeat occurrence.
Without such a staff it is not reasonable to expect a championship again under O. So, any internal promotion of a young coach with little success on his resume to the position of OC should be scrutinized.
Would you agree with that assessment?
If you do, maybe you will understand my concern about the sudden posts about Calloway as OC.

So they had a great staff that won a championship, but you are concerned with their hiring procedures.
Is that the gist of it?

And I think that is a legitimate question.

The guy has experience. The guy is respected amongst kids and coaches.
You guys can blame that “fluff piece” all you want, but he’s got experience coaching in the SEC. He completely flipped Samford into an offensive machine. No matter what you call the write up, doesn’t take away his history and what he’s done. I’ll go to his bios instead of the write up and it all says the same thing.
“Not having experience with the speed of the SEC” is a cop out BS excuse.
I’d prefer him than a retread or a failed NFL coordinator. Because if it’s not Callaway, then it’s one of those two.

Give me the downside of hiring Calloway and I’ll give you your first upvote. Give me a reason. Any reason.
Do you really want reasons or are you trying to point out his ignorance?

Why do you need a gist? I'm concerned they're not doing what they need to do to identify and hire the right OC candidate to bring us another championship. I'm sensing they are trying to go cheap on the OC hire, want to simply promote someone from within who is not ready to be a top-5 OC, and the posts on this board building up Calloway as OC is part of that process.
So, tell me, why is Calloway a candidate in your mind to be a championship-caliber, top-5 OC next year? If you can't make a credible case for that, why should the fan base accept that decision?

That's not true, they actually averaged over 100 yards per game less once he took over.
And for the record he was coaching at Samford under an air raid legend.
If you are really looking for reasons why....he has sucked at running the ball most of his time at Samford. He improved over the years though.
He is also almost exclusively air raid in the past.
Also his last year at Samford his offense pretty much sucked.
Can give more reasons if you want. I'm fine with it, but don't act like he is a sure thing because of a couple of fluff pieces.

Thank you. I appreciate your detailed comments. In your opinion, he has talent and turned around the offense at Samford. He could be successful at LSU, but it would be his first time in an OC role on the big stage. LSU should be able to get someone more of a sure thing.

Depends on who the retread is, if it's Moorehead...well you are simply basing that off emotion and not stats. Not amazing he wouldn't be better but experience says otherwise.
It's funny though, Moorehead dropped from fcs head coach at Fordham to be OC at Penn state.

Only one that has even been mentioned is Lombardi and he has been with Peyton for a long time now. Not saying I want him over Callaway just pointing things out.

I don’t know that he is a legit candidate. But they’ve had him in the program for a year, so if he is a candidate, then I feel better about him that they know more than they would about someone else.
I doubt he is a candidate to be OC, but perhaps QB coach or PGC, if that position will be used.
And your “concerns” and “feels” are not grounded in facts.
LSU is doing a great job of keeping a lid on the searches for all the open positions.
So you have no idea what level of diligence they are doing, or what financial commitments they are willing to make.
This board is not real life.

The difference is that we are both looking at him from different sides. I choose to look at what he’s accomplished. If the rumors are true that he was mostly responsible for what Max looked like the last two games, then I’m all aboard. No one coordinator will be infallible. I just don’t think that he’s a lazy hire or completely incapable of being a solid play caller like some of you make him out to be because “of a fluff piece.”

That's totally fine. He could be a great guy just at the right time to take off. It happens. The problem with O as the HC is that he needs both OC and DC to be elite because he is a CEO-type of a coach.

In modern college football, every coach needs great coordinators. This thought that Orgeron is unique in this is a false rant meme.
Sure, there are a few examples where the head coach is an actual play caller, but those are rare and getting rarer.
College football is too big of a business with too much time requirements for a head coach to hold down one side of the ball without top-notch coordinators.
