I don't know what I think of this. He's got the rah rah attitude to recruit, but can he run a program? Christ, he couldn't even manage the clock on the sideline.

BTW I'm on a Mac for the first time and don't know what the hell I'm doing, so no link, but it's under Truth and Rumors from an L.A. Daily News article.

Miles studied at the Herm Edwards school of clock management. He'd need to bring in top level assistants for me to not have a total meltdown over this

maybe Garrett's intent is to hire the first african-american HC at USC?

Well, Herm is the black Pete Carroll, is he not? Longtime NFL assistant who gets two head jobs, the first with the Jets, has moderate success, gets fired twice, has a lot of enthusiasm and a players coach rep...

So yeah, all of that and breaking the color barrier in Garrett's mind might add up.

since the Petey story broke, i've always thought that Dwayne Walker's name would have been out there more...he does have USC ties, and from what i remember seemed to be tight w/Garrett.

who knows which way they will end up going though?

I think Walker's name is already in play, but Garrett is focusing on the bigger names first like Riley, Fisher, JDR and Sark.

Its a no lose situation for USC. The hire looks good and if it doesn't work out after the sanctions expire they will get a new coach.

The SC job following legendary Carrol with impending NCAA penalties is a high risk of failure job.

Herm Edwards is the most overrated coach I've seen in a while. He drove two NFL franchises into the ground. He may be likable, but USC could do much better.

I like Herm Edwards. It's hard not to, but when you see what he has done, I have to agree with what you said.

Herm has two failed NFL jobs but is not a rah rah guy like some people have mentioned in this thread.

Jets fans, at the time, considered Carrol their worst coach ever.

I'm sure Carroll's 6-10 worst coach ever season was easily forgiven when Kotite led them to 3-13 and 1-15 records the next two seasons.
