Schiano's last game at Rutgers?

0-11. That's his record against West Virginia. Zero Big East titles. One top 25 finish. 28-48 record in the horrendous Big East. I have no idea why people are high on this guy.

Uh he actually made them competetive. They had been to one bowl game in their entire history before him but have actually been competetive under his watch with only one losing season since 2005. They have crappy facilites and a fan base that cares drastically more about pro sports than college. The fact that he has competetive year in and year out is extremely impressive.

The positive that Schiano brings is being able to handle horrible situation, stability, ties to the region, and competitive teams. I think he really is the guy, as he was rumored long ago to want the job after Joe left.
I know not the same but he handled the LaGrange thing brilliantly, he was there fist year in 2001, and I think he was the guy that UConn called when they had the player shot to get advice how to help with that.

Schiano had a 22-26 record against conference competition. Edsall was 22-26 against in-conference teams. Heck, Connecticut has even more severe disadvantages than Rutgers has with less in-state talent, less support from their alumni (had a nightmare of a time selling tickets to the Fiesta Bowl), and Edsall had to build that team up from Division 1-AA.

well considering Edsall went in and has alienated just about everyone at Maryland its not a stretch to say Schiano kicks his arse at people skills.
and I lived in CT for four years. UConn was the easier to build for Edsall b/c they had far more support from the admin. Also, Edsall didn't just build up some crap arse program by himself. He had a very nice foundation built for him by Skip Holtz.

Skip did a great job at UConn. People think that it was Edsal. I also think that Schiano is the guy more I watched that game. He just seemed to be saying goodbye, or maybe just wishful thinking.

you guys's can't look at it thru the LSU or Bama lens.
Rutgers has been to 1 bowl before he got there, EVER.
They have no tradition and mediocre facilities. He's done a great job there.

Popular belief was that Schiano was warming up for the Penn State job at Rutgers. Can't see it now even though with all the conference changes leaving Rutgers behind.
Runs a clean program with string academic emphasis, I think he wants to win a Big East championship first at RU then maybe move up.

Substitute 'big time program' with 'Miami (Fl)' - and you have a nearly word for word transcript of what he said to the 'Canes a few years ago.
He's had other offers, and he's turned them all down. He built his home in New Brunswick, virtually within walking distance of Rutgers Stadium. He seems genuinely happy at Rutgers, where he has very low expectations and very little pressure to deal with. As long as his student-athletes are actually 'students' he's virtually assured of keeping his job.
I don't see Rutgers ever becoming a 'major' college football program; I mean 'major' by Nothern standards, of course
If it were me, and my career, I probably would have taken a shot at coaching elsewhere... but I digress. IMO, if he doesn't leave for Penn State, I don't see him leaving for another college opportunity.

If Schiano is staying he needs to put out the fire of the ESPN and Sports by Brooks reports. He keeps getting mentioned and to me that is telling.

He needs to publicly say he is 100% committed to staying in Piscataway. He needs to put an end to any Penn State rumors unless of course they are true.

I give schiano a ton of credit for making rutgers half way respectable, but i dont think he will be able to take them to the next level. Hell, ive been a rutgers fan my whole life (34 years) and im not sure anyone can get them there. I cant believe he turned down michigan and miami to stay at rutgers. At rutgers he gets whatever wants though, the ad is a former football player. The house he built near the stadium, that was on protected land, but he wanted it so he got it. My folks have friends that work in the atheletic office and they all hate schiano. Hes a micomanaging dictator according to them.
