The LSU Tigers have multiple vacancies on their coaching staff after head coach Ed Orgeron announced several members of his 2020 staff would not return in 2021.

One such vacancy could already be filled, as offensive analyst Russ Callaway has reportedly been promoted to a full-time role on LSU’s staff, according to FootballScoop.

It is unknown what role Callaway has received — or could receive, but the move would keep a talented, young offensive coach on the staff.

Glad to see mounting evidence that we are keeping him on staff. I can understand not handing him the keys to the offense yet, but we need as many good offensive minds as we can get on staff and he reportedly did sold work with our QBs this season.

Agree, & hope they make him QB coach. He played the position & sounds like he relates well to the current QBs.

Is this different news from what we've been hearing? Feels like we've been reading the same thing over and over the last 3 days.

Yes, this is the second source to report that Callaway is getting an on-field promotion, but not the OC job.

All this means is that he will be qb coach at minimum.

The way coach o runs shite is weird.
They want to keep the offense from last year but then hire an oc. I love the offense i just wonder how its going to work out.

That is because coach O knows he wants to score points and hopefully more than the other team. The problem is that he doesn’t know exactly how to do it. He has a vision of where he wants to go but no idea on how to get there. The proof is seen by clearly looking at his hires. He wanted to throw the ball more when he was first hired but hired Canada. Canada is known for running the ball first. He then promotes E to OC and E didn’t do shite until Brady got here. E tried his best to keep the Brady train going but to much of the core of last years team left and he couldn’t adapt. The hiring of Linehan was just mind boggling.
Hiring Pelini was just as mind boggling. He was trying to recreate the past just like with Brady. The game had passed Pelini by and O didn’t do enough vetting to figure that out. With the exception of Brady, all his hires have been trying to recreate either someone else’s vision or the past. He just hopes his hires can get him to his goals but he can’t structure them or mold them to his vision because he doesn’t understand how to get there himself.

How could he? He’s never even been a coordinator. He understands jimmys and joes but doesn’t have a clue about X’s and O’s.

You may disagree, but it appears to me that LSU is doing what Alabama has done on offense, which is to have a “team” offensive system regardless of who the OC is.

LSU has had the same playbook and terminology for the past two seasons. Of course there are tweaks and added elements, but I expect whoever is hired to run LSU’s current offense.

Just as whoever Alabama hires will run their offense.

No thats not truw.

Lane kiffen put in his offense.
Lane and sarkisian run similar offenses.

Why do u think they tried to keep sark.

I do agree with you that lsu is trying to run the same offense next year and it puts them in a weird position

Is it the second one? Just sounds like an LSU site rehashing the original report?

This is actually wrong. Saban has said that the key to program continuity is NOT changing systems every time you change coordinators. Since Kiffin overhauled their offense, they have kept the same basic terminology, playbook and system through Locksley and Sark. There are new plays and wrinkles, but they do not change systems anymore. And we all know they never have on defense.

We should be doing the same thing going forward. It would help to prevent the shite we just went through with Pelini happening again.
