re: Rooney rule is a joke

Uh yes the rule does imply something. It implies that without it, blacks won't get coaching jobs. Duh. Which is stupid. Does anyone here honestly believe an owner is going to pass on a black coach that has earned an interview by being a winner for a white coach just because he's white? Really?
This isn't the fifties anymore. That kind of stupid thinking is fading away into the history books. The rule helps keep that kind of mindset around. It implies that black coaches are somehow unable to win these jobs. Which was probably the case at one point but that's why I asked when will it be time to get rid of it??? Will it EVER be time to get rid of it? Will we then need to do the rule for some other skin color?
How the hell is this not racist and insulting to black coaches in this day and age? I'm not asking if it's effective, I'm asking if it's necessary still? Does anyone actually believe a black coach got his job because of this? Personally, I think they got the jobs because there are more qualified black coaches these days and they EARNED IT.
I mean if you believe this was the reason for more black coaches coming in, you have to believe that owners hired them because they were black over a more qualified white coach and I'm sorry but that is just absurd. Maybe somebody got an interview he wouldn't have otherwise but if he wasn't the one that nailed that interview with the resume of winning to back it up, he wouldn't have gotten the job. But does anyone have proof that situation ever happened? Seems to me that if you're going to Rooney an interview, you'd probably do it like Seattle is doing this one. Checking the box.
I don't know, I just think it's insulting to what these coaches have accomplished.

Yes, but not because they can't coach, but because the people who are doing the hiring won't consider them and interview them.
It's not that hard to understand.

Then why were blacks not getting interviewed and hired before pressure was put on the NFL and which led to the rule being implemented?

You're stuck on stupid.

That was the case, because folks weren't making it a point to include them in the interview process.
Why is that so imcomprehensible to you?

What does it matter?

So, you think the problem all along was that there just weren't any black coaches worth a shite? It's not just about the rule, blacks are now getting coaches jobs because the NFL is now under pressure to hire them.

Some probably have been hired because they were black, some probably because they were quality coordinators. It's about social engineering. That's what folk like Jesse Jackson does. I'm beginning to understand why you are having a difficult time understanding this.

If blacks had been interviewing all along and getting hired all along, there wouldn't be a need for the rule.
It's pretty simple.
In case you haven't learned by now, blacks want to be included in damn near everything we do. Blacks love the opportunities we have and the ones we can provide. There is still people who feel a ton of social engineering is needed.

Rocket apparently lives in a time capsule on a deserted island somewhere because his points ignore or simply deny that there's been progress in the last forty years.
Sorry, you're wrong. And you're a racist. These coaches would be there with or without the Rooney rule. And to say they have to have it and it's responsible for them having a job is just pathetic and ignorant.

This is dumb from the stand point of being forced to interview someone will just piss off the potential employer more. Its not going to make that persons chances of getting hired any better. I don't give a damn what color someone is, I am going to hire the person who will do the best for me and fit my company best and no one is going to force me to hire or interview someone otherwise. Now adays race plays no part at that level.

Progress in what? I know the facts. There was only about a handful of blacks who had ever served as a head coach in the NFL in th league prior to the implementation of the rule.
What makes you think things would have changed without the rule and the pressure put on the NFL by prominent black leaders? I'll tell you, nothing would have.

No, I know what I'm talking about. You're just dumb. You're not a bad guy though. I like you. I'm just here to help you become an intelligent person. It's going to be a hell of a challenge, but if anyone is up for it, it's me baby, that's for sure. I'm in it to win it. Never surrender.

You don't know that. You still can't explain why there was so few black head coaches prior to the rule and the pressure put on the organization and what would have made the people who hire the coaches change in their ways.

You still don't have the mental agility to comprehend what I've been posting. You still can't understand why the rule was put in place. The rule was put in place for the people doing the hiring. Not because black coaches couldn't coach.

You'd be amazed at what Jesse Jackson can make Fortune 500 companies do. If you have a huge business/corporation and you don't want to see it ruined by bad publicity and boycotts, it's best to cooperate with him than take him on.

Did the redskins comply with the rooney rule? Zorn was fired on a Monday and Shanahan was hired on Tuesday.
Daniel Snyder is rich enough to not give a shite. So is Paul Allen, but got to consider the psychographics of Seattle as well.

i think this proves my point about the divisive side of the rooney rule.
there are still racist idiots out there. unfortunately when rational people question something like the rooney rule the arguments they make may sound like those of of the idiots...and even if what you say isn't the same, the fact that you 'dare' to question it can get you lumped in with the racist.
as is stated in a subsequent post, companies will cowtow to jesse jackson's demands even if they aren't doing anything wrong for fear that they will face boycotts and be labled 'racist'.
i don't think that anyone could argue that the reason there were no black NFL coaches in the modern era until the last 20 years was not racial prejudice.
but that racial prejudice has lessened greatly, as evidenced by the growing number of black coaches in the pro ranks. in all honesty, the changing attitudes in society have had more to do with that than the rooney rule. if anything, the rooney rule is going to eventually create more animosity and become counter productive.

Not necessarily. It's not just about the rule. It's also about the pressure that clubs face and bad publicity they may be forced to deal with if they don't hire qualified black coaches. Some clubs probably feel it's easier to hire a black coach than deal with black leaders and the media badgering you for not hiring a black coach as if it's some sort of crime.

I don't think Rocket supports the rule. He's just explaining the thinking behind it.

This whole thing is stupid. 1st off the rule is racist and geared to once again advancing the Black man, But the rule dosent state that they have to interview a black canidate, but a Minority one. secondly, its only a few years more of this before one of those race beaters starts beating the drum to force teams to hire more black coaches. The Rooney rule was the first step, next they will force the hiring or label that team racist. Nothing in this world is fare or equal unless you are a minority

My question is this:
Has any black coach been hired because of the Rooney rule? In other words, has an owner been forced by the Rooney rule to interview a black coach and during the interview process realize that wow, I thought I wanted to hire this other guy but you have impressed me so much that now I am going to hire you? Has that happened? If not, then the Rooney rule has served no purpose.
