Most random hire ever.

Apparently the Ryans are close with the Lynn family

I can believe it. I now think D'Anton is the DC Saban wanted to hire but he wouldn't take the job b/c Saban wouldn't guarantee that he'd stay for an extended amount of time. I know Saban tried to bring Doug Belk back as DB coach.

Used to see him, his fat wife and fat child at Lucy’s when he was with the Saints. Those people could put away some groceries.

If memory serves he got both the Saints and Cowboys to be top 5 statistical defense in his first seasons there and instantly fell off both times

Funny, right? How can he have such success and equal failure so quickly? Does his style get stale that fast?

It’s got to be more than his “style”.

He seems to have had gradual career demotions ever since his time with the Saints:

Buffalo Bills (2016)
Assistant head coach for defense

Washington Redskins (2019)
Inside linebackers coach

Baltimore Ravens (2021)
Inside linebackers coach

Las Vegas Raiders (2022–2024)
Senior defensive assistant

USC (2025–present)
Assistant head coach for defense/linebackers

Alcoholic? Can’t be counted on to show up on time and be fully engaged? And now USC needs a “mascot” for recruiting to entice kids under false promises tied to the perception of a coach with valuable experience?

Part of it is no one in their right mind would run a Buddy Ryan style defense in 2024.

He's a college linebacker coach with a fancy title. It's not like he's actually running anything.

So USC's defense will still suck?

The Ryan's have been irrelevant for years. I give it 12 months.
