I'd assume state probably names an interim for the next season and reasses next cycle

What an awful situation for everyone involved. Current coaching staff is mourning their loss while also likely dealing with the fact that they may lose their job as well. I also feel for the incoming coach / staff trying to fill such a massive void. This whole thing fricking sucks.

Way too early to even think about this. But I think almost certainly they are going to give Arnett control for at least the next year. The last thing the team or program needs right now is someone new coming in trying to change anything.

Agreed with all this. I assume Tony Hughes will be named interim for 2023, then regroup after that.
eta: apparently it will be Arnett.

As terrible timing and bad taste as this thread is...
They're not going to do a coaching search this late. The university will let the next season play out and decide then whether to stay with the interim or go a different route. This would give staff members time to plan their next move and secure a new job.

I missed that he was named interim for the bowl game already. Looks like you are right.

I don't see why they need to wait until the next cycle. I get that early signing day is coming up but naming an "interim" coach won't exactly calm the waters there. If it's a matter of respect, I get that.

This would be devastating for recruiting and transfer portal. Either give Arnett a 3 year contract or find a permanent coach
