Regarding Tolbert

He was RC at UF under Zook when they landed the no. 1 class in the nation, and recruited Jarvis Moss to UF from TX. Those who've met him say he's a personable hard working guy. He's been successful coaching WRs at the highest level. I'd really like to see this hire happen.

He went to LSU and learned as a grad assistant under some other well known coach. if i can find the link someone posted i will post here, but if i can find it that means you didnt even bother looking.

i've read that he has alot to do with the development of Lee Evans and the way that Josh Reed and Roscoe Parrish have been playing the past few years.

Like I posted brfore, he played for Jerry while at LSU. Tyke is the frontrunner, it would be great to see him at LSU. Hes a great recruiter and can talk with kids.

Many times coaches want to pad the resume, this at times could be the reason. Sometimes other things come into play.
I posted this in another thread:

His wife is from La. Many coaches want to be near family once the parents start getting up in age, remember Stacy Searels leaving for UGA to be closer to his family?

I know another coach that passed up the NFL many times to stay in college. I know of one that took a cut in pay from a Pro job, he even had a buyout he had to payoff.

LSU is one of the better paying jobs in the nation. The average Salary of NFL Assistant Coaches, $150K-450K FYI.

Remember Dunbar, Brick and many others got back into college coaching from the NFL. Some rather college.

Every coach has his reasons. Remember Pete Jenkins?

Some coaches I know will tell me all the time, "LSU was one of the better jobs I have ever had."

If Tyke takes the job, I'll talk with him at the Recruiting Bash, if not before. I'll find out his reason and let you know.
I talk with a few coaches every now and then. Each one has reasons for leaving or staying. Money isn't the driving force, like some would think.
I know of one friend in coaching, he passed up a Jimbo job ( Head Coach in waiting). He likes where hes at. Speaking of Jimbo, he passed on a lot of jobs before taking the one at Fla. St.

The pay thing is changing quickly. CFB Coaching salaries are increasing more rapidly than NFL Coaching salaries(Assumedly because NFL coaches generally don't move around when successful.)

The second thing is actually untrue. CFB requires less time input because of the NCAA mandatory no contact periods. Once the NFL season(Which is 4 weeks longer not even counting playoffs) ends there is the FA period where each coach has to evaluate incoming/outgoing FAs. Then you begin draft preparation. Coaches observe guys working out on a regular basis.

Then after the draft its only one month until rookie camp, then a few weeks then mini camp, then regular training camp.

On the other hand after the bowl season is done there are few player evaluations to do. Coaches lock up their commits and are done with recruiting in February(NFL draft is a month or two later). Then spring practice and its on break until practices start up in the summer.
