He could be waiting for another job, and bills staff is about to be dismantled. Sometimes you take a really decent first job offer. I do know one thing... If i knew i was job hunting next yr and a school like LSU offered me, I would take it. Especially if i lived there before, and the majority of good coaches that come through that program can get higher paying jobs. Economy sucks and it's not like he was making that much compared to other coaches on our staff.

I believe Tolbert was a grad assistant under Ed Zaunbrecher when Z was the HC at ULM. Tolbert then coached TEs under Z at ULM. Z presided over the downturn of ULM football and was canned in 1998, leaving him and Tolbert out of a job. Z ended up coaching QBs at Marshall and Tolbert ended up as TE coach at Auburn. Terry Bowden was canned during Tolbert's one year at Auburn, leaving him out of a job when Tuberville came on board. Tolbert caught on as WR coach at ULL. When Zook was hired at Florida he brought in Z as QB coach and OC. Z got Tolbert on staff as WR coach. The disaster that was Zook at Florida began and Zook cleaned house on the offensive staff, demoting Z and replacing the rest of the offensive assistants. I do not know if Tolbert was on his way to the Cardinals before or after these changes. He spent a year with the Cardinals as WR coach and is thought to have done a good job helping Anquan Bolden. Z went on to fail a second time as OC under Zook at Illinois and thereafter went on to fail as OC at Purdue before not being retained by the new Purdue coach. Z is now out of football. Tolbert has been with the Bills for the past 6 years and has helped develop Lee Evans. He was only at Florida for one year but many people are giving him a lot of credit for helping bring in that great class to Florida. His reputation as a WR coach is a little mixed but generally positive.

Most coaches in that profession are well traveled. I know a few and have talked with them at length about this. One of my coaching friends, coached at Auburn and A&M. Right now he has a son at A&M and a Daughter at Auburn. Another was at the Detroit Lions, then takes a job with the Dolphins. Hes now at SMU.

Moving a lot doesn't make someone a bad coach. Staying in one place doesn't make someone a good coach. Lots of factors go in.
