Thy also never paid for head coaches. A million dollars a year can get a decent young coach.

He's the Penn State defensive coordinator. No idea what kind of offense he'd run.

You mean "deep south"? He tried to get in on the Rice search.

It's criminal how shitty the cajuns have been relative to the resources available there. Hudspeth has been on the downswing and its definitely time for change there.

Brent Pry.... God, Nate would be entered into the Lafayette hall of fame at red’s...

Cajuns will have a lot more to sell potential coaches with than they did in 2010.

ULL needs to hire Broderick Fobbs!

t's the other way around. We have constantly tried to schedule LSU, definitely for basketball and LSU refuses to do so. Our basketball team has pretty much agreed to a home and home versus any in state team that wants to play. We just played at Nicholls.
I'm assuming it's the same situation for y'all, but I know for a fact that LSU refuses to schedule Louisiana Tech at home and certainly not in Ruston. They are terrified of losing to an in-state school so you will continue to not see either school on their schedule unless they rise, ULL/Tech take a dip or any combination of that. The risk of losing to an in-state school carries some pretty serious repercussions for coaches, fan support and recruiting.
I'm sure I'll get downvoted into oblivion by the LSU fans who think this isn't true but I know 100% for a fact that this is true.

As far as input, I think Kendal Briles would be a hell of a coach if you are willing to take the baggage.

I don't see in the link you posted that Hudspeth is fired.

...why? We're not playing a bowl game. Why do we need an interim head coach for a few weeks?

Just the operations of the program. Signing day is coming up soon. There needs to be a guy in control.

Prior to Hudspeth, the resources for athletics in general were hamstrung by the university administration. Once Savoie replace Authement in 08 and the RCAF was allowed to be formed in 2009, funds for athletics increased significantly and a year later they hired Hud. Hopefully they will be willing to pay the money to make a good hire.

December 3, 2017
Good Afternoon Cajun Nation,
This morning I met with Coach Mark Hudspeth to discuss the future of our Football program, and I informed him of my decision to move the program in a different direction, relieving him of his head coaching duties. Transitions like this are never easy for anyone involved, and I am extremely grateful for the commitment and service Coach Hudspeth, Tyla and their children have given this community in addition to the improvements made within our Football program over the past seven years. I know Coach Hudspeth will be successful as he moves forward in his career and I know Ragin’ Cajuns fans join me in thanking Coach Hudspeth and his family for all they have done for the city of Lafayette, the University of Louisiana, our Athletics Department, and the Football program.
Additionally, this morning, I met with our Football coaching staff and student-athletes, as well as various support personnel, informing them of my decision and discussing our process moving forward. During this time of transition, Coach Michael Desormeaux will serve as the acting director of our Football program as we continue to focus on the academic success of our student-athletes and our recruiting efforts.
Our attention will now be given to a thorough search process that will allow us to identify the next Head Coach of Ragin’ Cajuns Football. We will be committed to finding a coach who exemplifies the values of the University of Louisiana and the Department of Athletics, an individual who prioritizes the academic success of our student-athletes, builds positive relationships with those he coaches, is a relentless recruiter, places a strong focus on player development, and is a proven winner.
To protect the integrity of our process, I will have no further public comments until such time we announce our new coach. Understanding there will be great interest and speculation associated with this search, as I shared with our student-athletes and staff earlier today, unless you hear information directly from me, please do not assume it to be accurate.
I greatly appreciate the passion and commitment of Cajun Nation. On behalf of our entire Athletics Department, I want to thank you for your continued support of our great University and student-athletes!
Respectfully,
Bryan Maggard, Ph.D.
Director of Athletics

Hendo, I'm told Billy Napier is who they're going after as the #1 choice. Don't know if this has been mentioned in this thread or not, just passing along my info from a guy who should be in the know, but he's also a naive guy so ppl could be lying to him
