Pitt Film Study - Matt Canada's Offense puts up 76 on Syracuse

The play is Pitt’s bread-and-butter, which is an inside zone handoff to James Conner or the jet sweep to the flanker. It can be run either way and is blocked pretty similarly. Syracuse starts with eight men in the box. The outside linebacker bites hard on the fake to Conner, leaving Henderson with two blockers in Aston and O’Neill with just a safety to beat.

The beautiful part of the play is that if Syracuse had come out with fewer guys in the box, Peterman could have just handed to Conner. Pitt used the multiple motions to force Syracuse to reveal its intentions and then took advantage.
Conner’s 3 touchdowns (2 rushing, 1 receiving) pushed his ACC all-time leading number to 52 rushing and 56 total touchdowns.

Bonus Film Study vs UVA:

Particularly in the early part of the game, the jet sweep wasn’t moving the sticks for the Panthers.
I don’t expect it to cause Canada to lose any sleep, though, and here’s why. Watch how the Virginia defense reacts to these two early jet sweeps by Jordan Whitehead and Qadree Ollison.

But what the Cavaliers allowed by being aggressive against the sweeps probably hurt them just as badly. With the sweep-side inside linebacker focused on motion man, the inside zone handoff became a much more valuable tool for the Panthers.

motion?
attacking defensive weakpoints?
setting up plays that aren't just PA go/bombs?

Vs Marshall
quote:
The Marshall defense clearly expected either some type of run or a quick pass that would just be deep enough to move the chains. The Herd blitzed with seven men on the play, leaving every receiver in man-to-man coverage.
When Weah faked in inside cut, he got cornerback Chris Jackson to bite and Peterman delivered a perfect pass to the back shoulder. Weah broke Jackson’s tackle and scored.

Mentioned him yesterday. I was highly impressed with his performance against Clemson this year. With that being said, I'm wondering if he would be interested in us.

Just about every defense does this to us, on almost every play. We dont' have a qb that can complete that pass consistent enough for the defense to give a shite.

You can pass to the back shoulder?

I don't see why he wouldn't
$$ and exposure would be a lot to pass up

tebow and Hernandez were good with those shovel passes. I remember back in the mid 80's Vandy lived and died with those.

inside zone handoff to Fournette or the jet sweep to Guice.
