Elko's history is that he stays at a place 4-5 years and moves on.

He was at Bowling Green 5 years as a DC, Wake Forest 4 years as a DC and A&M 4 years as a DC. He tried Notre Dame but got the frick away from Kelly after a year.

Hard to tell how much impact it will have on our class. Elko isn’t a recruiter but obviously people want to play in his scheme. Santucci is likely to be his DC which impacts Perkins for sure. Bryce Anderson was the one guy Elko was really involved with and he’s already said he’s signing with us

On the field it’s an attractive position, we will be paying top dollar and have a ton of talent. Elko was a great DC though

Most likely santucci, who is our linebacker coach. Dont think he will be able to take elijah robinson as im sure we are about to give him the co DC title

Elijah Robinson is the key. He’s their best recruiter, one of the best in the country, and is the bag (NIL deal) point man.

Whoever the defensive coordinator is going forward will likely be a linebacker focused coach.

Fisher wanted Elko because the secondary was by far the biggest weakness of A&M under Sumlin. Now linebackers are the biggest weakness.

Pretty much turned the A&M defensive culture around. Big loss.

Can’t take hard coaching and expectations. Understandable.

I think he’ll do well. Total opposite of what Clawson has going down the road at WF - top defense vs top offense

theres also only so many power conference gigs out there. Some dudes just want to be the main guy which makes sense

Idk 10-15 of them open up every cycle and most are way better programs than Duke

I think he could have done better than Duke. It’s one of the very worst P5 jobs out there IMO. I think he could have at least landed a Maryland/Va Tech level gig in a year or two, maybe a job like Cincy which is better than Duke. It was inevitable he would eventually leave, he’s interviewed for HC gigs every offseason he’s been with us I think

Agreed but maybe that was the type of environment he was looking for

You would think he could’ve gotten a better HC gig than Duke, but who knows?

He goes 7-5, 7-5, 9-3 at Duke he either gets a big extension or an offer from a big program

It’s not a bad move

I have no argument against that. I just think with guys, in the profession, they probably all think they are the shite and when an ACC job comes, some may just want it

He definitely could have, and probably shave have, held out for a different job. But some guess just have the want to be the captain I guess

Yeah, the experience at Wake was likely big for Duke wanting him. I thought UVA should have seriously considered him. Some guys may like the more academic atmosphere with lower expectations

Umm not if Penn State has anything to say about it. Temple talking to him as well.

He will be y’all’s coach in 4 years…y’all should thank Duke for realizing what the in depth college fans know….Elko was A&M’s persona….and it’s gone now. He will come back to y’all though.

What’s being overlooking is that Elko went to Penn so he can actually look down on his Duke players academically.
