Personally I think they knocked it out of the park with this hire.

No nonsense drill instructor type who breaks you down then builds you up into a unit, with no tolerance for stupidity.

If nothing else, this cleans up Michigan’s image, over time.

And the dude wins without blue chips.

It all sounds good, but it is a pretty big culture shock to go from a lifetime in Utah to the Big 10 and a program with expectations like Michigan. I'm rooting for him, but I could easily see it going the way of BK at LSU. Not because he's not a good coach, but the expectations are going to be unrealistic and there will be people meddling and not necessarily letting him do it his way.

Hope I'm wrong. Love the arc of a guy doing it the "right" way for decades and taking one last shot with a big program before he retires.

It's about as good a fit as you can find, IMO.

Improved their coach big time and didn’t owe any buyouts to anyone.

Impressive luck

I don't think this is going to go well...southwest to northeast culture change is a lot, especially for an old guy. I certainly wouldn't expect him to exceed what he did at Utah.

Yep.
Hell just 3-4 years of stabilization would be a win.

This dude with Michigans resources is a scary thought. Would love to hear the Buckeye fans “honest” feelings on this.

This has “resigns abruptly due to burnout” in 2027 written all over it.

I think he’s going to bring them stability and a well coached team for 4 years then retires. Which I’m sure Michigan is fine with after the shite show.

With the problems they are having he is a good fit. I’d be stunned if 66 year old Whittingham starts banging Michigan athletic department employees and goes crazy after. He seems pretty level headed

Great optics, and Whittingham is one of the best coaches of his era…but I don’t know about this. I get vibes that KW is not great with the NIL era. Granted, Michigan would be at the top of the food chain.

I mean, Whittingham has done pretty damn well in the NIL era considering they were either #12-13 in the final polls this year.

At least they won’t have to worry about him boinking a staff member then trying to off her and himself
