Alleva has to demonstrate some resolve. He can't alow himself to be bullied or influenced by a small group of misguided boosters. If Jimbo or Herman are available and we hire O, it would be a massive blunder.

The only thing about hiring Jimbo is that it damn sure better be a splash. Alleva will be spending at least $11 million dollars of somebody's money in the first year to hire him.

When people get burnt for $11 mill they don't forget.

We are already paying Les $9 million and a lot with the current LSU staff. Jimbo better produce and produce big.

Part of the article says that LSU will not hesitate over the $5M buyout. Once you spend $9M just to get a coach to go home, you don't start watching your pennies for your new coach.

This is an investment. It's been proven over and over again that you find the best coach, and pay them. That results in success.

Whats the last team to go cheap and win an NC? I guess maybe Auburn and we know exactly why they won that year.

The biggest downside to hiring Jimbo, IMO. He's going to demand 7 million for 5-8 years, if not more, and his buyout will be sky high. Honestly, I could see LSU having to got to the high side of the eight year contract. If Jimbo isn't successful, that will be one heavy weight around LSU's neck.

I've heard from several sources, none official, that Aranda has a 3 yr contract with LSU. Is there any way to confirm that, is his contract a public document in some form or another? If so, he's not going anywhere.

The fact that sources are revealing that we're already looking at dates to make an announcement is quite revealing
Yeah, it's simple. It means it's either Jimbo or O.

He can leave free and clear for a head coaching job. No buy out. It's the only way I see him leaving TBH.

It sounds like they're going all in on Jimbo. I think after that it will be O assuming he doesn't have trouble with the last two games. If he does, then we probably go to some of these other options.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but that might be the situation.

If this hire is not made before SEC title game than Alleva mishandled this whole thing.

No reason not to have a coach on board before sec title game.

Whose money is it? The schools or boosters? That could make a big difference in the decision process. Won't make a difference if Jimbo doesn't live up to very high expectations that will be placed upon him.

Two consecutive losses to Bama and whoever paid the $11 mill would be saying they could have got that for $3 mill with coach O.

I could definitely see that. I think Alleva knows he is betting his job on this hire so he will go with the more proven coach, if that coach says yes. At this point, i guess all other candidates are likely out of the picture.

That means nothing. A coach can have a 100 year contract, and it wouldn't mean anything to another school. All that matters is the price of the buyout. And no, a buyout does not mean a pursuing team has to pay out the rest of that contract.

Kelly was my neighbor back when he coached at Nicholls. He talked to Jimbo daily. They go way back. I think he will come if JF comes in some capacity. It was fun back then knowing the things that were goin on inside LSU .

And two consecutive losses with O, and boosters will be kicking themselves for going cheap.

Orgeron is not my preference, he's third at best on the normal list we hear about, behind Fisher and Aranda, but i truly dont feel he'd be a bad hire. the people who think we'd become 90's ole miss are ridiculous. worst case scenario imo is that he's John Blake at Oklahoma.

Blake was a DL coach too, for the Cowboys, when he got the OU job. he took over a bad program after Gary Gibbs and Schellenberger, and wasnt very good in his 3 years, but he recruited his arse off and set the table for Stoops to win a title in year 2, his only NC.

because of ole miss, Orgeron would be watched like a hawk and have a very short leash, not to mention a very favorable contract if he was to be let go. it would not be hard at all to fire him if it came to that. but i don't think it would. i think he'd hire great coaches and recruit on a level we've never seen.

the negative recruiting writes itself here, the second O struggles there's blood in the water. Hiring O under those terms says to most we're punting here because we don't like our options.
