You won't get another long term coach as long as Alvarez is involved. GL

Chryst will never leave UW unless he's canned.

The stupidity is strong within this thread.
Let me help out. BA will be retiring soon. And he doesn't even spend much time on campus.

Good hire, someone who won't run off on you because he's a Badger and he's not good enough to be hired away after a year or two.

Not feeling terrific about this hire (despite what he has done at OC for Wisconsin), but at least he'll stay.
Poor Pittsburgh. That program has had as much instability, if not more than Wisconsin.

Congrats on the puppet and the lazy hire

Wow. To go from one of the hottest up and coming coaches last cycle to this.

Much weaker recruiting than Gary Andersen. Major step down in that area. Paul will have classes ranked in the 30's to 60's annually with composite rankings in the 82 to 84 range.
A lot of Wiscosnin high school kids that go to Northern Il. will instead go to Wiscosnin now and that will weaken the talent on the roster.

With this hire it shows Wisconsin has decided it isn't a national championship wannabe program. Wiscosnin is the new Iowa.

He was the obvious choice

I doubt Pitt fans are terribly upset. From the looks of their 247 board this season, I would say a majority of their fans wanted him fired anyway.

Pitt football is pretty much dead anyway. Johnny Majors won a NC and immediately left to go home to Tennesee, and since then it's been a stepping stone job for everyone who's ever touched it with the exception of Wannstedt.
At least they have the Steelers.

Recruiting? Combine the entrance requirements at Wisconsin with the academic records of the typical HS football players and the best recruiters in the country will have to make do with average players. Evaluation and coaching is what wins at academic schools.
As to that evaluation and coaching:
"As Oregon State's offensive coordinator, [Chryst] oversaw a 2003 Beavers squad that became the first team in NCAA Division I history to have a 4,000-yard passer (current Carolina Panthers QB Derek Anderson), a 1,500-yard rusher (current Atlanta Falcons running back Steven Jackson) and two 1,000-yard receivers (James Newson and Mike Hass)."
And he's had 11 years of experience since then. Ok, carry on with your criticisms of this hire.
