Outside of TD posters, what led us to believe Riley was ever a real candidate?

There was nothing. So what are we blaming Woodward for?

Derived from this board. Circular logic.

Jesus Christ, real journalists (including Dellinger) have reported that LSU had verifiable interest in Riley. It wasn't a case of mysterious mass delusion fostered by this board. This board isn't that powerful. We asked and Riley declined. The end.

If TD created the whole thing & Riley was never seriously considered then that means it’s Aranda. Because if it’s not, then why don’t we have a coach announced? If anybody is hired outside of DA, then Woody swing and missed/got played. Including us

ETA: unless it’s fickell, Kelly, Saban, Smart, or Harbaugh lol

I’ll start with Matt Moscona. Stop typing....he said he believed the offer will be 12 million a year and that Riley would accept. Never called his shot, never “broke news,” just said he believed it would happen based on what he had heard (he has plenty of connections), while still acknowledging that nothing’s a done deal.

And for as much as everyone on this board shits on him, he’s more often right than he is wrong. I have every reason to believe that he’s not bullshitting and he’s very good at offering his opinion and not trying to break a story.

This before or after he said “no way it’s Riley”?

After. That was his opinion, and then it changed. Such things happen. Was this a gotcha? Cuz that’s a weak gotcha.

I’ve been on this board a long time, and that was the least coincidence I’ve ever had in a “done deal” coaching hire.

There’s no modern precedent for what would have taken place. That’s not even given OU was still in the championship hunt up until last night.

Man, I really hope Woodward didn’t waste precious time on this.

Having interest is different from it’s a done deal and announced on Monday. The latter is the definition of mass delusion.

If he really did say no then that’s ok but this blaming Woodward for fumbling at the one yard line and Riley toying with us is just self created hysteria. It was never that far along.

I don’t have sources myself but I guy I work with has family that are paying toward O’s buyout and the new coach. Last week when the Lincoln rumors got going here he told me that Lincoln wasn’t the target.

All I’m suggesting is that the narrative that we swung and missed on Riley may not be true.

Unprecedented wouldn’t begin to describe it. A bunch of tortured fans wanted something to brag about and turned this into a spectacle that now makes them feel left at the altar.

Maybe Woodward tried and maybe he didn’t but by no means was this a done deal ever.

OP. He asked. If you don’t, fine (although you’re here, so you’re probably lying).
