Canada is a good coach and is likely one of, if not the top realistic candidate for the job. But, I don't think he's a top 3 OC in the country.

After one season with LSU, he will be one of the top three.

Let's also not forget that Brennan and Narcisse are still up for grabs.
Brennan said today that he's shutting down his recruitment and coming to LSU. Final decision!

Narcisse going to wind up at Auburn...........

It wasn't pretty, the PR side was a nightmare, and we had to endure a week or two of negative momentum, but Orgeron successfully identified, recruited, and made a big hire at OC.

So much wrong with this conclusion

1) a PR nightmare is never an example of something done successfully

2) Ed O said at the presser that someone gave him Canadas name, so he personally didn't identify anyone

3) LSU money sealed the deal, not Ed O. If Alleva had lowballed him, he would still be talking to other schools

4) Big hire is TBD. I like what he did at Pitt, but he is one year removed from being fired.

I am glad you posted that. Two weeks ago i did some research of my own and spotted Canada. Watched a couple of youtube videos and read his history. Was very impressed. Especially watching him develope players. Threw his name out in a couple if post. Other nembers started typing his name and researching then Boom he caught attention from everyone. Result--- Canada named offensive co ordinator. Homerun walkin. Thank You "O" and goodluck!

Sure it is. He made a quality hire.

That counts. Using your contacts and reaching out to people you trust is EXACTLY what you want a HC to be able to do when he needs to make a hire.

Ok? The LSU money was always there. And, it's always going to be there. Two weeks ago, it wasn't a given that a Canada level hire would be made. It was.

Obviously, it is yet to be seen how Canada works out. On paper this is a strong hire. I'm not sure why you'd be unwilling to admit that.

The consensus among folks whose opinions matter in coaching circles and analysts is that the Canada hire was a strong one with much potential.

Yeah you can't use money as a reason to not give O credit for the hire.

Miles paid some assistants a boat load of money to suck arse while they were here.

One very important thing that his assistants have stated, he stays out of their way and let's them coach as long as things are working. They did every play they called had to be cleared with Miles first.
