Bottomline, IF only one assistant is leaving on defense, AND Miles is bringing in a new DC, then that new DC will HAVE to coach the position held by the departing assistant.
Further to this point, if it is really already known that only one coach is leaving the staff, then Miles has to know that the new DC can coach the position of the departed assistant...meaning that the DC is already signed up.

Thoughts?

yeah there is a limit of coaches. They could always fire Robinson and let Peveto further ruin special teams again but that would still mean more than 1 gets the Ax overall.
How do you not replace at least one defensive coach after a season like we had?

Was special teams even an issue this year?

That would make since if O is being considered as DC.

That might be a mistake.

Tenuta coaches linebackers at ND, right? Who does that at LSU? Just playing along with that scenario.

How do you try to kick 63 yard field goals into the wind or try to call a timeout to stop the clock after a kickoff return in 2005?

they were meh. Certainly better than when Peveto was there but we still can't get a good return set up to save our lives and we dont cover punts too well.

I would think that Peveto is the least likely of the three main defensive coaches to get the ax.

all of the defense struggled why would Lane be the only one to lose his job? Hell outside of Highsmith no LB has done shite under Peveto's watch yet he gets to keep his job? Really les? Thats fricking pathetic

1. Of the speculated candidated (and there are many) what are their areas of specialty? Tenuta is LB coach at ND, but it's been he's a secondary guy. Just wondering if the candidates are all LB/Secondary guys.

2. Of the two DC's, most have speculated that if only leaves it will be Peveto (LB). If that's the case, it would narrow down the DC speculation in this scenario.

I thought popular opinion was that Peveto would find another job, possibly NWU HC. If that was the case, would Miles keep Mallory? Or any of the remaining defensive staff for that matter?

I would think it is a mistake for at least two reasons:
1. First time DC
2. First time DC with a dual responsibilty.

Miles needs a new DC with previous DC experience. We already had our DC experiment and don't need to go down that road again.

Its Peveto's turn to bring the chips and dip to the next BBQ and Miles is not gonna let him get off that easy.

Is this still a possibility? I thought this was a possibility early on, but it seems less likely...not sure though.

I would like the DC to not be responsible for a position. Just like Pelini.
Work on managing the defense coaches, personnel, and game plan.
