Saban was winning national championships at Michigan State, news to me and I'm sure them.

Every dickwad on this board that's convincing himself that Bielema isn't gonna wreck shop on their team all while being cool as a cucumber in some reefs and listening to some Marley.

Barry Alvarez is to Dave Hart as Idi Amin is to Margret Thatcher

NO one is going to go coach there as long as he's there.

The NCAA heat sucks for him but 6 and 7 wins in the crappy ACC is nothing to write home about. He's at Miami not Duke. Their talent isn't what it was but there's more than enough to get to that many wins without breaking much of a sweat.

Miami will never have a great program as long as Shalala is their pres. Over-priced mediocre school with crap facilities.

Could make a whole other thread just using the first few words. Starting to realize Bielima probably hated him.

I think Barry was probably an ok mentor for BB, especially in his first couple of years. My Wisconsin buddy said that BB use to close down bars in Madison. Rumor had it that he was on a Larry Eustachy path of self-destruction. It’s my understanding that Barry overlooked some of BB’s behavior early on and finally helped him get his act together. Don’t get me wrong, I think Barry has a huge ego and should have given up the $ for coaches. But from what I’ve heard, I can see how Barry would be pretty pissed at the way BB left.

sorta like the Slave Master that is pissed and incredulous that his slave would even consider running away after everything he had given the slave.

Not at all a reasonable comparison, but ok.

Bielema is a good coach, but reading some Arky fans reactions, I think you will be disappointed. You now have the 4th best coach in the SEC West.

I think it is fine analogy. Barry feeds the assistants scraps at best.

Paying yourself 75% of what you cap your coordinators for a years work to coach 1 single bowl game is less than altruistic.

He's already got a $1 Million salary and his consulting and appearance fees to boot.

the right move for Barry, in the best interest of the Wisconsin program would have been to just coach the bowl and not paid himself any extra to do so. A million is enough, and especially when the biggest reason he lost his coach is him not allowing his coach to pay competitive salaries to keep good coaches.

I guess he still expects high value guys to have the mindset of GA's and just be happy to have the esteemed honor of working for Alvarez. It's hubris at it's finest, and it's a slave master mentality.

I think I dislike Alvarez even more after reading this. LINK

Barry thinks Bielema left because he couldn't stand being in Alvarez's shadow.

If that's the case, When you're in a Lightning storm you don't leave the cover of a 15ft. Maple to get under a 50ft. Oak.

If Alvarez thinks he casts a shadow over the UW program then Frank Broyles' shadow at Arkansas must turn summer to winter.

Piggies, settle down, I think the parting was pretty mutual. Alvarez clearly states he knows what the market is for assistants and is not going to overpay. I think blockhead Bielema is not the most tactful guy and probably wore out his welcome with the money guys, even though they were getting to Rose Bowls. Alvarez thinks the machine will run itself. He may be wrong on that. But, I have a feeling he felt like he couldn't protect his handpicked boy anymore, so the only way out for everyone was for Bielema to get a check elsewhere.

What is the status of the Wisconsin search?

Pete Roussel keeps talking about Barry Alvarez possibly taking back the HC job permanently.

I'll assume this stems from utter lack of interest from respected candidates.
