He's just an old, egotistical prick.
We'll frick him over once more when we take Hammock.

lulz @ Wisky being the last job open and UTEP, Temple, and Western Michigan getting guys from the NFL and Alvarez striking out left and right while not a single assistant is sticking around to watch the clusterfrick a moment longer.

If he wasn't a coaching legend there they would have already ran him off.
He's sitting back playing shuffleboard while his entire coaching staff is being poached away, and maybe the best one is fixing to move on very soon as well(Thomas Hammock).

Alvarez made UW what it is, I grew up a Badger fan, I remember the 80's, it was awful. Bielema's teams were essentially Alvarez's with worse on the field game management but better recruits, facilities, assistants and fan support - and all those things came about as a result of BA's tenure as HC, not BB's. They both made it to the same number of Rose Bowls but Barry won his and got us official Rose Bowl beer, Bret did neither. That's pretty much what it boils down to: Bret won just one third of his bowls while Barry won more than 70%.
Bret looked like a great coach because of three things:
1. Inherited Alvarez's system/players early in his career.
2. Took credit for great coordinators (Chryst & Doeren) a la Chizik and Malzahn.
3. Russell Wilson.
When he didn't have one of those three and it was on him to engineer greatness he failed. Sure, he could get great recruits and make terrific hires at Arkansas but I'm not holding my breath.
To the other gripes and complaints:
-Advertising the job opening/how long it took to hire a coach: Wisconsin state law requires that vacancies in public positions be announced and held open for a specific period of time, I believe it is two weeks, thus you have the long hiring process and postings on UW's website. Barry got in a lot of trouble when he hired BB without following proper procedure.
-Barry not paying assistants: That's a Big Ten problem and not necessarily one that is exclusive to Alvarez. In fact, outside of the SEC, most schools haven't caught on to that strategy. He'd also run into a lot of public and institutional push back. It is what it is.
-Barry asking ex-coaches not to contact recruits: Remember that BA went to and is a product of Nebraska, the world's greatest, pansiest and most polite school. It sounds a bit naive that he would ask for such a courtesy but it makes sense considering his background.
-Throwing Chryst under the bus: I don't see how what he said in any way was a shot at Chryst. He helped Doeren move up as well.
-On stating he was interviewing Petersen: Please provide a link. There were rumors Petersen was heading to Madison but I never saw Barry say, "Oh yea, I interviewed that guy."
Really this thread is just an awesome amount of residual Razorback butthurt from that 2006 loss to what was, in every aspect but one, a Barry Alvarez team. The OP is bullshite and most of you display a fundamental ignorance of UW, Alvarez, Bielema, the Big Ten, College Football and the world in general.
Anyhow, enjoy 2 Beebs and his succubus wife. He's a douche, a fact most UW fans knew well before he bailed. Sooner or later he'll turn his back on Arky and leave for Iowa when they finally fire Ferentz. Oh but you'll drop plenty of road games to 6-6 teams and not win a bowl in the meantime, it won't be boring.
In closing I say On Wisconsin, Go Pack Go and frick you, eat shite.

quote:This has been my favorite mouthbreather talking point lately. If I had to guess, Wisconsin, like many other states, requires state-funded positions to be posted online. Do some of you idiots genuinely think that they are looking for coaches that way? Please tell me it's just the typical Arkansas false bravado shite.
When you have to post your football staff openings on job sites, things aren't going so grand.

Yea sure, I'm mad, whatever.
Just for fun lets compare Alvarez's time as AD to Long's time at Arkansas or Arkansas since 2004, when Barry took over the job.
National Championships
Since 2004
Wisconsin - Eight
Arkansas - Two
Since Long was hired
Wisconsin - Three
Arkansas - Zero
NCAA Tournament Appearances
Since 2004
Wisconsin - Nine
Arkansas - Three
Since Long was hired
Wisconsin - Five
Arkansas - One
BCS Bowls
Same for both
Wisconsin - Three
Arkansas - One
Add to that the BTN for Alvarez and the Petrino fiasco for Long and its pretty clear. Arkansas got Bielema but UW has the better AD and better athletics all around.

Coming from an Arkansas fan, a state known for only two things, Wal-Mart and the youtube pig lady, I find your finding humor in my post, well, humorous.
Thanks for the laugh.

What an arse! He should be the head coach of that game for nothing! Actually, he should name one of the current Wisconsin assistant coaches interim head coach for the game, Hell, let Gary Anderson stand on the sideline for that game! This is the kind of shite that's wrong with college football!

exactly! He's already paying himself over a mil per, just coach the damn game and be quiet about it.
The $118K payday for 10 practices and standing on a sideline letting the coordinators do what they've done all year and then putting a $75K bowl win bonus in for himself when he's doing no game planning (which he already admitted) is so stinking bogus.

This may come as a surprise to you, but UW posted their jobs on the NCAA job board. It is widely known in admin and coaching circles that jobs only get posted there by D1 schools when they are having problems getting applicants. Football jobs for D1 schools almost never make it on the ncaa job board.
My info comes from a former Big 10 AD, who's son is one of my good buddies. BCS level jobs rarely if ever make it to the job board because there is usually a huge line of applicants for every position.

It's Wisconsin state law you miserable sack of shite. They have to post it.
You don't have mysterious "info" from some unnamed former AD, it is state law, they have to make it public.
Once again, for the fifth time in this thread just to make it clear to you: state law.

Only you would misconstrue what I posted as "mysterious info". The only D1 schools with postings on the NCAA job board are FIU, LaTech, and your precious Badgers. There's a shite ton more schools that have job openings, but only those 3 are having issues filling their open positions.
Arkansas has the same requirement for university jobs to be posted, however, we never had to stoop so low as to conduct internet advertisements to get interested candidates.
besides the 2 week period has already lapsed, if it was just a formality they would have been pulled and coaches announced. Neither of those have happened leaving rational humans to conclude that Wisky might be having some problems getting coaches to be willing to work for peanuts for a dodgy old frick that has unrealistic expectations.

op you obviously did not listen to Alvarez on the radio as he stated BB leaving was a total shock that wisc did not release any na,es of coaches and that Alvarez himself reached out to coaches lastly you idiots would love to have him as an AD but you're all too stupid so is this the second coming of the flagship?
Posted on 12/29/12 at 11:05 am to ninthward
just make sure you list the dates and amount of NCs you plan on winning. Flagship sets sail again.

Are you fricking kidding me?
Alvarez is one of the worst ADs I've ever seen
Jeff Long is one of the best, and it's not even close
