Joke's on them. LSU never had any good returns to begin with.

What's the big deal? LSU return game is already shite. McMahon is/was horrible. He got his "reputation" here riding the dick of the 2 most accurate kickers to ever stand on that field. His punters were overwhelmingly average, coverage teams were bad, and return teams were horrible. Same reason Sean Payton fired him, except he didn't have the coattails of Tracy and York to ride on then.

the spread punt formation has practically killed punt returns across college football

Yeah. They cover punts with WRs who don't even try to tackle like Alex Adams. And throw the walk on RB out at KR half the time.

Not to throw cold water on this, but Polian was the primary recruiter for Sumlin's 2013 class.

That class had 32 players in it and was widely regarded as one of the biggest busts of a class in college football history.

-9 never played a down at A&M (6 never even suited up)
-12 never played more than a full season (2 arrested and still in prison, 3 transfers, 7 injury retirements)
-2 transferred after 2 seasons
-1 left early for the NFL draft and was not drafted (Ricky Seals-Jones)
-8 finished out their eligibility

Sounds like Sumlin should have told his guy to go after players with better character, no?

As if the special teams coach chose all the offers. And as if he will here. Probably hard to get high character kids to go follow a lazy drunk.

Sumlin didn't provide any direction or guidance. He basically gave coordinators free reign.

Another thing we should note is that Brian Polian has been the recruiting coordinator at Notre Dame. This is a big boost to us!

In addition to Kelly, Polian has worked under some decent coaches (and some that are not so great but we are familiar with). Polian has definitely coached on some good teams.

Saban - Grad asst. in 97 at Michigan State

Jim Harbaugh - Polian was ST Coord. on that 2010 team that finished 4th in the nation

David Shaw - BP stayed on when Shaw took over at Stanford in 2011. He coached Special Teams, Safeties and was the recruiting coordinator. They finished #7 in the polls that year.

Charlie Weis - Not that CW is a great coach, but BP was there for all five years coaching special teams. He also helped coach DBs

Kevin Sumlin - BP was only at A&M that year and it was Sumlin's first and best season.

Glad we can keep helping them out. Any more favors they need, while we're taking their people?
