Because most know Dabo isn’t that good of coach. He beat up on a very down acc and each time got bama by prepping for them instead of the semi game.

Also he has come out against the portal and NIL.

Plus are we sure he can handle Bama fans. One Clemson fan called a radio show and Dabo wanted to fight him

Well based on this announcement, I guess the shortlist is getting shorteeeer & shorteeer & shorteer & shorter!

Dabo has likely been their number 1 candidate the whole time.

No chance. Lanning would be the #1 guy on every single teams list and it's not close.

Let’s remember the last time Alabama had to do this. Wasn’t Rich Rod the selection and he bailed at the last second? Maybe accepted. Then a last ditch effort with a big number to NS.

Wow, I personally thought he would be the best possible hire Bama could make. Glad it didn't happen.

That was awesome! He went off on a tirade on that guy. I’ve thought Dabo was their guy from the start unless they can get past whatever bad blood they have with Kiffin.

All indications? There have been whispers about this since Nov, and apparently some Bama brass knew about it.

The man is 72 years old. There have been "whispers" every season for the last 5-6 seasons. But all indications were it was business as usual for him on the day he decided to retired right up until the point he informed Alabama he was. The morning he retired he was interviewing candidates for open staff positions. He participated in a conference call with SEC coaches. Nothing suggested he was going to decide to retire just a few hours later.

Alabama heavily pursued Mike Norvell. FSU not only agreed to a new deal but committed to a substantial increase in resources such as recruiting budgets, etc. The school is in the midst of $450M upgrade to the stadium & a FB-only operations center. All eyes now on Kalen DeBoer.

What are the odds that Saban tried to hold up Bama for more money yet again as he has done repeatedly, and decided to frick them when they said no or drug their feet?

If it is true that he did this at the last minute with no pre-planning I think that’s VERY likely. Saban doesn’t take a dump without a plan. He may have given them another ultimatum.

My point is that he didn't just decide to retire a few hours later.

You think it's coincide he decided to retire the afternoon after classes started for his early enrollees? As far as I know, those EE's can't enter the transfer portal and they certainly can't get out of their LOI's.

And, like I said, some insiders let it slip a few weeks ago that Saban was retiring.

All the more ready why we paid Norvell what he’s worth. We need him to escape the ACC and move to the Big10. Also we play Bama at home in 2 years. After spending hundreds of millions of dollars to refurbish Doak. We can’t have our ex-coach on the opposing sideline at our grand opening. Bama will be fine…but they aren’t beating us in 25 or 26 now.

Kiffin might leverage the possibility into a raise at Ole Miss. He knows he can win 9-10 games a year at Ole Miss and they’ll love him. Lose 2 games a year at Bama and the fans will be calling for his head
