It’s probably not going to be popular, but the more I think about it, the more I believe we should reach out to David Cutcliffe within the next 2 years to be OC.

Arch Manning is going to play for Cutcliffe wherever he is (even if it’s Duke). Cutcliffe is 65 and probably isn’t coaching past 70-72. He makes $1.7 million a year at Duke, and has been declining there since 2014.

If Arch starts as a true freshman (likely), we’d have 3 years with a Manning at QB. Cutcliffe may not be a great HC, but he’s a good OC and elite QB developer.

And I don’t believe for one second he’s a step down from Ensminger as OC. I also think he’d have much more success as OC with our athletes and resources than he will ever have at Duke with theirs. We can outbid his $1.7 mil.

This dude is already 65. Getting 5 years out of him might be pushing it.

In 2 years, Lane Kiffin has a better chance at being LSU’s OC than Cutcliffe.

That’s the point. Hire him for the Arch Manning years, then he can retire. If you go with a young guy (like Brady), you’re liable to lose him after 1-2 years if he’s successful.

Awful lot of confidence in a kid that's what 14? I'll wait until he shows something meaningful I'm terms of future development before planning to build the program around him.

Cutliffe likely retires from Duke. He's not concerned with money and he's got a job as long as he wants there seeing as though football is down the list of important things at Duke.

I wonder how many head coaching offers Cutcliffe has turned down over the years.

Less than zero chance he leaves Duke, unless it is for retirement

He went 5-7 this year. He very well could be fired. If he was offered LSU OC he would take it.

In 2 years my money is on Joe Brady(after he is a casualty of the Panthers qb shite show).

And we aren’t hiring a coach because of a 9th grader

Cutcliffe might literally have the safest job in the country. If he wanted to coach somewhere else he probably has had plenty of chances

First of all, David Cutcliffe may be one of the very few UNIVERSALLY respected coaches in America. Not just among Ad's, and University Presidents, but among his peers.

Second, Duke is perfectly happy with the job he is doing. He has an above. 500 record there, which only Spurrier had done since Bill Murray retired in 1965.

Third, he's turned down multiple offers to be OC in the SEC over the years and even turned down the chance to be Tennessees head coa h.

Archie on his sons (and LSU):

quote:

People on the radio get on me a little bit saying I kept my boys from going to LSU, and that wasn't true. I let my kids make their own decisions, didn't influence them. They both visited LSU and they went to games almost every Saturday night, almost every home game. "When Curley (Hallman) was there, Peyton was convinced Josh Booty was going to LSU and he wasn't going the same place Josh was going. Eli was the same way with Brock Berlin. Of course, he didn't. They made visits. It wasn't an anti-LSU thing at all. I've lived in New Orleans 44 years. I've lived in Louisiana a lot longer than I lived in Mississippi. I have great LSU friends. It's fun. I'm not an LSU hater. I'm a strong Southeastern Conference guy.

Looks like you “a Manning won’t ever go to LSU” folks are misinformed.

Can we stop with this “there isn’t an opening” narrative please?

SE has already gone from OC to a lesser position before and very recently. Are we forgetting 2017? He loves LSU and will do whatever the HC thinks is best for the program. Also, it has already been stated that he wants to retire soon and just needed to stay until his pension kicked in, which I believe is after this year.
