I will eat crow served cold if he comes in and kills it. You can't blame people for the reaction though, his record speaks for itself.

His record tells me he had two good years at Clemson and one really bad year there when they were really young and not much talent.

He will have much more to work with here than he ever had at Clemson.

Is that why saban fired Steele the first time? So you actually believe all that crap about this being a gut punch to saban?

PLEASE link me something where Saban fired Steele. Actually Saban has promoted Steele on two separate occasions and has hired him on THREE separate occasions.

If LSU hired a new head coach, say from Michigan State with a bunch of 6-6 seasons, I'd be pissed. But then again, only time will tell how well it works out.

Michigan State was 10-2 with wins over Ohio State and Michgan when LSU hired Saban.

Yep. LSU is in the exact same position now as they were in 1999. No difference at all.....

The similarity is that a coach's record with lesser talent tells you nothing of his future success with top talent. And that's all we need to know for now.

Nick Saban got guys like Julian Peterson, Plaxico Burress and TJ Duckett to go to Michigan State. People noticed.

I've seen a couple things posted that got whacked. CSA posted an interesting quote from a Clemson board on a thread late last night; it might still be up somewhere. All I'll say is he could've been burnt out.

It all started with getting the best players. Shocking.

About what I would expect.

You are so clueless. Viable results with lesser talent are a prime reason for larger more prominent organizations with better talent to hire people. Seriously, if you're young, say a high schooler or younger, I'll leave you alone because you have an excuse for your ignorance. If not,

Again, my biggest problem is the narrative that has emerged associated with the search.

Steele was on the original wish list.

We made contact.

We said "we'll get back to you" because we can do better and weigh all options.

We chase tail for two weeks. Everybody tells us no or uses us for leverage.

We come back two weeks later and tell everybody "just kidding. He was the guy we wanted all along. ISNT HE GREAT!"

Again, if Steele really was the man, why did we leave everyone twisting in the wind for two weeks? Why would we risk him getting an offer from another school? Because if he was that good, he would.

That's what's fishy about this whole thing. It feels like settling.

I'm not eating crow and will not until I see this defense perform. Steele as a DC is a terrible hire considering the available proven DC's that were out there. We settled on a position coach from a rival team to run our defense after losing our proven DC to a division rival. Miles had a chance to go out and make a great hire to improve the defense at that position. He hired a guy with 0 skins on the wall as a DC. Coach O helps the Dline and recruiting. There is nothing to show that we hired a defensive strategist that is proven.

The Saban was terrible when we hired him argument is hilarious.
